Tis’ the season..to get spooky. Halloween is fast approaching which means it’s time to grab some popcorn, make yourself comfortable and get ready to be scared by all the haunting offerings TV and film will being you this year. To help you out with this, we’ve compiled a list of 10 new movies and television shows that will have you on the edge of your seat…and checking for a monster under your bed.
No One Will Save You
No One Will Save You follows Brynn, a young woman dealing with grief and anxiety, who finds solace in her home until she is forced to battle aliens who arrive unannounced in her home. The mentions of extraterrestrials make this film seem like sci-fi but from the trailer you’ll see it’s pure horror. The atmosphere is very chilling and the whole thing feels fast paced and exhilarating. Most uniquely, and impressively the film only has 5 words of dialogue throughout.

The Fall of the House of Usher
The Fall of the House of Usher (TFOTHOU) centres on the CEO of a corrupt pharmaceutical company who must face his questionable past when his children start dying in mysterious and brutal ways. The creator of TFOTHOU, Mike Flanagan, has a (well-deserved) reputation for taking classic horror stories and translating them beautifully to television and film. So the fact that he has decided to take on Edgar Allen Poe with TFOTHOU is very exciting. From the trailer, he looks like has another hit on his hands with a talented cast, snappy writing, and the perfect balance of creepy and comedy.

Totally Killer
Totally Killer follows Jamie who, after her mother’s friends are murdered by the Sweet 16 Killer on Halloween, travels back in time to 1987, where she pairs up with her mother to stop the young would-be-killer and return to her timeline before she is trapped in the past forever. Less horror, more comedy, this delivers everything you want in a campy slasher film. Kiernan Shipka is a great choice as the final girl-esque lead and the 80s is a perfect setting for what could be a cult classic in the making.

Goosebumps
Based on the books, the show centres on five teenagers who after accidentally releasing supernatural forces must find a way to work together and recapture them, while discovering their parents’ secrets from their teenage years. Goosebumps is a classic and has had plenty of adaptations but this one feels different. Taking on a darker tone, it seems to really embrace the scary whilst celebrating the nostalgia which makes it ideal for new fans as well as old ones.

Five Nights at Freddy’s
Based on the videogame, Five Night at Freddy’s follows a troubled security guard, who accepts a night-time job at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a once-successful but now abandoned family entertainment center, where he discovers its four animatronic mascots move and kill anyone that is still there after midnight. This movie has been getting a lot of hype, and from the trailer it’s easy to see why. Unique and creative, it feels like a new type of horror movie. It’s obviously going to be scary and gory, but it also seems like it will have laughs. Plus, who doesn’t love creepy animatronic children’s mascots turned psycho killers?

House of Villains
House of Villains focuses on 10 of reality television’s most infamous villains living together and competing for a cash prize of $200,000 and the title of America’s Favourite Supervillain. So while this doesn’t maybe fit the genre of horror, it does scream entertaining. And what better way to celebrate Halloween than to celebrate supervillains? Even if those “villains” are real people. With a lineup including Tiffany Pollard, Jax Taylor, and Omarosa, the drama will be at an all time high. Fans of reality television are in a real treat with this one. Also, Joel McHale is presenting so you know it’s going to be good.

The Exorcist: Believer
A sequel to the original film, The Exorcist: Believer follows a photographer who must confront the nadir of evil when his daughter and her best friend are possessed. It’s going to be a tough job to live up to the original but the trailer shows it’s up to the challenge. This time it’s a double possessing which surely means double the horror and (dare we say it) double the fun. With original cast members Ellen Burstyn and Linda Blair returning, and new cast members including Leslie Odom Jr and Norbert Leo Butz (Broadway fans rejoice), the film is bursting with talented actors ready to propel the story the forward. Plus, the classic theme song is back which is guaranteed to send shivers down the spine.

Their firsthand accounts are brought to life through premium cinematic scene-work, news clips, home photos, and archival footage. John Carpenter is the king of horror which is why he’s the perfect person to bring these real stories to life. Part documentary, part re-enactment, this series looks to be incredibly gripping as well as entertaining. And the fact that the tales are true, make the fright factor go up. The Mill
The Mill centres around a businessman who wakes up beside an old grist mill situated in the middle of an open-air prison cell with no idea how he got there. Forced to work as a beast of burden to stay alive, he must find a way to escape before the birth of his child. Probably the most intriguing film on our list, the trailer gives just enough to hook us but also has us asking lots of questions. While this may not have the gore that some horror fans look for, the psychological aspect looks to be outstanding. The promo has a really creepy and chilling vibe to it, which is exactly what we want for the spooky season.

Living for the Dead
Living for the Dead follows five queer ghost hunters exploring infamous haunted locations and trying to help the living by healing the dead. Ghost Hunters crossed with Queer Eye? Yes, please! Plus, queer icon Kristin Stewart is executive producing and narrating, so what more could you want?
