The July list

The sun is officially out and summer is in full swing. That means a brand new month of things to do. Check out our list of what should be in your diary for July.

Watch: Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Following on from the critically acclaimed, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which brought together all 3 Peter Parkers, the latest film in the series has a lot to live up to. We’re sure it will deliver though as Sony and Tom Holland have consistently knocked it out of the park across the movie series. From the trailer, it will have a slightly darker vibe than its predecessors, with a lonely Peter Parker fighting crime in a world that no longer remembers him. The addition of Jon Bernthal as The Punisher will add an exciting layer to the film, and Marvel fan favourite Mark Ruffalo will also make an appearance. The movie will be released on 31st July.

Read: The Sea Hides Its Dead by Megan Bontrager

An horror story set under the sea? Count us in. The Sea Hides Its Dead follows a group of academics and researchers who become trapped in a sea cave and must survive supernatural trials that force them to confront their darkest sins. Early reviews have called it “Weird, wild, and unpredictable”, and that’s exactly the type of novel that should be on your bookshelves this July. Released on 14th July in the US and 28th July in the UK, it is available for pre-order now.

Play: Palworld

Described as Pokémon with guns, the game is set in an open world populated with animal-like creatures called “Pals”, which players can battle and capture to use for base building, traversal, and combat. Fans have been able to enjoy limited access to the game since 2024 but this year on 10th July, the game will have a full release across multi-platforms with new content, mechanics and areas being introduced.

See: Hamilton with Leslie Odom Jr

Not strictly genre fare but we’re theatre (and history) nerds so it’s making our list in July. Hamilton, the hit musical about Founding Father Alexander Hamilton and the American Revolution, has been entertaining audiences worldwide for over 10 years. Universally acclaimed, it has bridged the gap between traditional musical fans and first time theatre goers, with its clever lyrics and hip hop soundtrack. Original cast member Leslie Odom Jr., particularly gained praise (and a Tony Award) for his performance, and now 10 years later he is making his West End debut reprising his role as Aaron Burr from the 3rd July until 5th September. There are very few tickets left so grab them while you can. And for a more economical way to see the show, you can enter the Hamilton lottery on TodayTix which gives fans the chance to purchase £10 tickets.

Listen: Fire from the Hip by Finn Wolfhard

Stranger Things may have ended but the cast are keeping us entertained with their new projects. An incredibly musically talented bunch, Maya Hawke released an album earlier this year, Gaten Matarazzo is set to star in Rent the musical, and Joe Keery is on tour with Tame Impala. And now, this month, Finn Wolfhard is released his second studio album Fire from the Hip. Upbeat and guitar driven, the indie rock album has already proven that it has strong potential with critical praise for its lead single “I’ll Let You Finish”. Released on 10th July, it’s a lively album perfect for a summer road trip.

Go: San Diego Comic Con

The biggest nerd celebration of the year is upon us. Attracting over 100,000 fans, Comic Con is a celebration of comics, movies, tv, gaming and much more. Hollywood studios hold A-list panels and debut unseen footage, merchandise companies release Comic Con exclusive souvenirs, and the comic book industry’s version of the Oscar awards take place. It’s an incredible experience, and Nerdgeist will be there covering all the action so even if you can’t make it you won’t miss out.

Wear: Nerdy Swimwear

It’s officially beach/pool season and what better way to celebrate than to swim in style. Dip into the water kitted out in your favourite franchise. Popular choices include Star Wars, DC, and Marvel, but we’ve also seen Ninja Turtles, Rick and Morty, and Doctor Who represented. Etsy has some fantastic choices, with every fandom catered for, so get shopping!

Stream: Stuart Fails To Save The Universe

This Big Bang Theory spinoff has been in the works for a couple of years now but it’s finally premiering on HBO Max this month. It will follow Stuart, alongside a few other familiar faces, as he is tasked with restoring reality after he breaks a device that brings about a multiverse Armageddon. It’s a sharp departure from The Big Bang Theory set up but we’re here it. Both the concept and the trailer are giving weird and wacky vibes (in a good way), and it has real potential to be a unique standout show. Stuart Fails To Save The Universe will begin airing on 23rd July.
