Usually I get frustrated as Hollywood continues to remake movies, but this time I am actually more than ok with it. Little Women explores the lives of the March sisters in 1860’s New England, during the aftermath of the American Civil War. With an all star cast consisting of Timothée Chalamet, Chris Cooper, Laura Dern, Louis Garrel, Tracy Letts, James Norton, Bob Odenkirk, Florence Pugh, Saoirse Ronan, Eliza Scanlen, Meryl Streep, and Emma Watson you know it is going to be great.
Not only is the cast amazing but the project is being helmed by Greta Gerwig, so you just know the whole project oozes talent. And even though I stated it is a remake I believe this will be the case of Greta Gerwig using an old tale to tell a new story, one that according to its producers, focuses more on the sisters’ young adult lives, particularly after Meg, Jo, and Amy leave their family home.
It looks funny, heart warming and utterly charming with what I think is a feminist message about having a choice to do what you want, as a women. Though maybe me saying that is a little too narrow because on some level we can all relate to that. I for one will be looking forward to this movie as lord knows we need a break from all the generic action movies coming out these days.
