I’m a huge Spider-Man fan.

Growing up in the UK in the ’90s, Saturday mornings meant one thing: Spider-Man on Live & Kicking. The Sam Raimi trilogy became an obsession, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is one of my favourite animated movies, and Sony’s Spider-Man games? Platinums. Obviously.

At this point, it feels like the Wall-Crawler is practically in my DNA.

So, when I saw that Fanhome — one of the leading producers of subscription-based collections — was launching the Spider-Man Masterpiece Collection, an enormous collection of hardcover graphic novels celebrating one of Marvel Comics’ most iconic superheroes, you just know I had to get my hands on it.

The Spider-Man Masterpiece Collection

The new collection delivers monthly packages containing some of Spider-Man’s most defining adventures and story arcs, taking readers from his early days swinging through New York City right through to the massive, reality-spanning adventures of the modern Spider-Verse.

Each full-colour hardcover volume runs for more than 120 pages and comes with an introduction designed to put the story into context, introduce its major characters and explain what makes that particular adventure important to Spider-Man’s history.

Many of the books also contain additional material, including variant covers, artwork and artist sketches.

And, because apparently Fanhome understands exactly how to tempt collectors like me, there’s the shelf display.

Placed together, the spines of the books create one continuous piece of Spider-Man artwork, beginning with that famous radioactive spider bite and stretching through the character’s history into the modern Spider-Verse.

That is absolutely the sort of completely unnecessary detail that makes my collector brain very happy.

The Premium Collection

For those who want to go even further — because collecting comics is famously a hobby built around restraint — there’s also a Premium Offer.

This expands the collection with eight oversized Spider-Man Annuals, bringing together material originally published across Spider-Man annuals from the 1960s through to the 1990s.

These bonus hardcover editions collect stories from Spider-Man Annuals #1–47 and cover some major moments from the character’s history, alongside standalone adventures, origin stories, bonus artwork and other material.

It’s also a nice way of connecting the classic era of Spider-Man with the more modern material featured throughout the wider Spider-Man Masterpiece Collection.

And considering just how much history Peter Parker has accumulated since swinging onto the page in 1962, there is a lot for this collection to work with.
