The October List

Tis the season…the spooky season! With Halloween just around the corner, there are plenty of fun things for us nerds to do this month. Check out our list below.

Watch: Clayface

Over the years, DC films have been a mixed bag. However, with horror legend Mike Flanagan penning the script, we are optimistic and excited about new release Clayface. Based on the comic book character, Clayface will centre on an actor who turns to a scientist to restore his face after he is disfigured but begins to experience unsettling side effects as his body turns to clay. With a strong trailer, and a talented cast, Clayface looks to be a winner for DC. It will be released in cinemas on October 23rd.

Read: In My Own Time by Christopher Lloyd

Christopher Lloyd has had an amazing career starring in movies including Addams Family, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, as well as his iconic role Doc Brown in the Back to the Future film series. Acting in so many cult classics, Lloyd has firmly cemented himself as a fan favourite. Now, Lloyd is sharing the story of his childhood, rise to fame, journey to sobriety and on-set experiences in his memoir. Readers can expect a deep look into Lloyd’s life, and behind the scenes tidbits that are sure to excite any film fan. In My Own Time will be released on October 27th and is available for pre-order now.

Play: One Piece: Grand Gourmet

If One Piece fans are struggling with the wait for the highly anticipated 3rd season of the live action series, we have the perfect solution. Join the One Piece crew to grow your ship into the greatest floating restaurant on the ocean. Players will be able to collect ingredients, dream up new dishes, and decorate an exciting interior. We love a restaurant simulator game and this promises to be fun and quirky, a perfect fit for the One Piece universe. Grand Gourmet will be available across various gaming platforms and will be released on October 23rd.

See: Rent

As theatre nerds, we were very excited when a Rent revival was announced in the West End. Upping the ante, was the casting of Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo as Mark. Rent follows a group of struggling young artists living in New York under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. With sharp humour, heartbreaking storylines, and catchy songs, Rent is one of the most underrated yet incredible musicals out there. And Matarazzo, who is a Broadway veteran with roles in Sweeney Todd and Dear Evan Hansen, is sure to give a brilliant performance. Previews for the show began on 28th September, and tickets for performances are available online or at the box office.

Listen: Camp Monsters

Popular podcast Camp Monsters is back for its 8th season this October. A fresh and interesting take on the myth and legends genre, Camp Monsters tell the stories of encounters with impossible creatures in the wildest corners of North America, over a campfire. Having covered monsters like The Chicago Wolfman, Hopkinsville Goblins and the Mermaids of Moon Lake, we can’t wait to see what they explore next. Just in time for Halloween, Camp Monsters season 8 debuts today on October 1st.

Go: Mundo Pixar Experience

If you’ve ever wanted to be part of a Pixar movie, now’s your chance. At the Mundo Pixar Experience, you can step into the world of Toy Story, Cars, Monsters Inc. and more, as you walk through recreations of the iconic films. Great for big and little kids alike, it’s a brilliant day out. Tickets are available online but you’ll have to be as speedy as Lightning McQueen as the exhibit closes on November 1st.

Celebrate: Halloween

Whether we’re out trick-or-treating, having a horror movie marathon, or tapping into our creative side by carving some pumpkins, here at Nerdgeist it’s mandatory to celebrate Halloween. Our favourite holiday of the year is almost upon us and there’s lots of ways to get into the spirit (pun intended). Later this month, Nerdgeist will have a special Halloween edition of our monthly to- do list to share ideas of how to enjoy the spooky season.

Stream: VisionQuest

When WandaVision premiered back in 2021 no one predicted how good it would be. The homage to sitcoms, stellar performances and depictions of grief won well deserved critical acclaim. It was soon followed by the incredible Agatha All Along in 2024. Now the final instalment of the trilogy is landing this month with VisionQuest, and from the trailer it looks to be just as brilliant as its predecessors. The story will centre on Vision as he attempts to understand who he is by communicating with AI personas embedded in his programming, and goes on the run with a mysterious stranger who may be his son. VisionQuest will debut on October 14th on Disney+.
