Before I even begin – this is obviously spoiler heavy so maybe boys and girls you shouldn’t be reading this, though consider yourself warned. The trailers for Ragnarok have been great, they have not revealed to much and there is so much going on in the film it would be hard for anything to spoil the movie for you. On saying that I have avoided watching the most recent trailers and steered well clear of wikipedia which left me pleasantly surprised to see some of these actors pop up. Though before we begin I will not be mentioning Dr Strange, as it was obvious he would be appearing in this film.
Rachel House: Fans of this New Zealand born actress would know her best internationally as the voice of the Grand Mother from Moana or the relentless social services Agent in Hunt for the Wilderpeople, here she continues to show off her comedy chops as Jeff Goldblum’s ever faithful if not a little blunt body guard Topaz. I am only starting with her because if you followed Comic Con or where being very watchful of the trailers you would know she was in the movie.
Clancy Brown : This one kind of surprised me, fans of Clancy Brown of course would know him from Highlander, Shawshank Redemption, The DC animated Universe, War Craft, Sponge Bob, Carnivale and Jackie Chan Adventures to name but a few of his roles. He is one of the most diverse and underrated actors out there but he has a distinctive and deep voice, which made him perfect for voicing the fire demon Surtur.
Taika Waititi: The director himself made an appearance in this film. Waititi is completely hilarious as Korg, a large rock like creature that fans of Planet Hulk will be familiar with. When playing the role the director made him very soft spoken and light hearted which though simple is still hilarious. About his role the Director had this to say: “We wanted to change the idea of what a hulking guy made of rocks could be. He’s huge and heavy, but with a light soul. We wanted to make him funny and a relatable entry point into this world. And Thor needs friends.”
Beyond the usual appearance by Stan Lee, which by the way may be his greatest one yet, there where three more major cameos and honestly I would advise skipping the rest of this article and going to see the movie, but you have been warned.
In one delightful scene Loki disguised as Odin is watching a play about himself and in the play he has cast the greatest Asguardian Actors possible in the roles of Himself, Thor and Odin. But the Humans playing these roles are very familiar faces to the audience with Thor being played by Luke Hemsworth – Chris Hemsworth older brother who would have appeared in West World with Tessa Thompson. Sam Neil in the role of Odin who of course worked with Taika Waititi on Hunt for the Wilderpeople and of course Jeff Goldblum in a little film called Jurassic Park, finally in the greatest cameo of the movie Matt Damon appears in the role of Loki, which blew my mind a little. All three actors where just brought in through their friendships with cast and crew.
