This comedy series deals with a very common issue, one that tv has tackled time and time again, how do you keep the romance alive?
The series stars Nat Faxon and Judy Greer as Russ and Lina Bowman. They are lucky in that they are married to their best friend, so perfect mix, accept time can really do a number on anything. The series tackles a wide variety of issues ranging from finances to infidelity. It’s filled with dry wit, awkward and morally ambiguous scenarios.
The pilot follows Russ, whose wife has given him permission to have an affair, struggling to go through with the act. He isn’t a complete failure but it’s what he does when he is close to success that leads to some very awkward and funny moments. After jumping through all these hoops and dealing with some family pet drama Russ and Linda have a nice touching moment at the end.
It’s quite a lovely story and I love the two main leads but my biggest draw is the supporting actors. John Hodgman, who everyone should remember as Jason Schwartzman’s nemesis in Bored to death. In another supporting role is Jenny Slate, she is best known for her role as Mona-Lisa in Parks and Recreation. My absolute favourite cast member still has to be Brett Gelman, he is a comedy genius usually playing the weirdo but here he seems to be a little more average but just as funny, it’s good to see Brett getting more varied roles. The show has potential to be a rare mix of sweet, funny and real.
