Codename – Karma
Powers / Abilities – Karma is a mutant with the ability to take possession of the minds of other people or animals. She projects a psionic energy surge that overwhelms the consciousness of another; this renders the victim unconscious while placing her own mind in command. It allows her to alter the victim’s perceptions and memories, command people to fall asleep or divulge information, and operate their bodies as if they were an extension of her own.
Formerly when Karma first took possession of someone, she could only move her subject’s body awkwardly until she acclimated herself to her new host. If she remained in possession of a host for too long she would begin to think and act as her host would, and eventually her own personality would become subordinate to one identical to the host’s. Although Karma can possess multiple subjects simultaneously, her control over her subjects is fragmented as she shifts her attention from one to another.
Karma had also begun developing other telepathic abilities that were either latent or triggered by her possession by the Shadow King. By possessing others remotely, she can mentally “see” through their eyes. She is also able to use her power to disrupt other psi-signatures, protecting her from all manner of psychic assault.
Karma is also a capable combatant with medieval weapons (particularly swords), due to the extended period of time she spent in Asgard. She is also familiar with first aid and firearms owing to her time in Vietnam.
Who is she?
Originally from South Vietnam, her father was killed during the fall of Saigon, her mother raped and later died on their voyage to America, young Xi’an’s life has been filled with much tragedy. When she arrived in New York she was helped out by a Catholic Priest (coincidentally Uncle to Dagger from super hero team Cloak & Dagger). After a few sad adventures in New York involving her having to take down her malicious and evil brother Xi’an eventually joined the Xavier Institute.
To help support her younger brother and sister she took the job of Xavier’s personal secretary, which came with a generous salary and also led the New Mutants. Sometime after this she was separated from her team and her mind taken over by the evil Shadow King. While he possessed her he consumed vast amounts of food leaving poor Xi’an massively obese, luckily the New Mutants where able to rescue her and after an emotional break down with Storm she regained some of her inner strength.
Sometime after this through the machinations of the Norse God Loki the New Mutants are thrown through time and space, Karma finds herself trapped in a desert wasteland, originally just deciding to die she finds strength trying to protect a small child, over time while trapped there she loses her weight, regains her inner fire and becomes the women she wants to be.
Not long after her return, her brother and sister both vanish, with the school and Magneto’s Hellfire Club both failing to turn up any leads, Xi’an reluctantly goes to work for her Uncle, General Nguyen Coy, who is in Mandripoor. Eventually leaving her Uncle, not trusting his ethics, she saves her family from Spiral. After several minor adventures she eventually gets a job as a Liberian in Chicago where she meets Kitty Pride (Shadow Cat), to whom she tries to confess her feelings eventually deciding it best not too.
When the Xavier School needed her she returned and became its Liberian and took charge of mentoring all students under 15, even stepping in and looking after two of the other squads while they remained without mentors.
That’s all I will tell you about her for now, as her story is on-going, she is a wonderful character and is pretty kick ass so hope you all enjoy reading about her. A women who has faced struggles of losing both her parents and having to become the sole provider while being super hero, she is truly an inspiration, to come back from what the Shadow King did to her too, this was beyond rape for months he abused her and controlled her, she is truly a force to be reckoned with.
