Oh I am excited for this film, not only is it a remake of one of my childhood favorites but it has a fantastic cast. The film stars Dev Patel, Joel Edgerton, Alicia Vikander and Sean Harris that a lone means it will be worth a watch but if you want more then you need only look at the source material. The story is based on the poem of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
The original poem tells the tale of Sir Gawain, a knight of King Arthur’s Round Table, who accepts a challenge from a mysterious “Green Knight”. This mysterious knight challenges any knight to strike him with his axe, but one year and a day after he has been struck the “Green Knight” will get to strike his opponent back. Gawain accepts and beheads him with his blow, at which the Green Knight stands up, picks up his head and reminds Gawain of the appointed time. In his struggles to keep his bargain. It is a tale of honor and chivalry and one I am very excited to see told on the big screen.
This new version of the tale seems to have taken on a much darker tone and one that may even go to a psychological place. Color me intrigued. Though I am not really a fan of Director David Lowery’s previous work from what I have seen here I am very impressed. Though I do wonder how long we will need to wait before people start complaining that DEv Patel is not white – if you think that, please fuck off, he is an amazing actor and will make this film great.
