Gareth Evans changed the game when he introduced the world to The Raid and it is looking like the Welsh Director is about to his country proud once again with his upcoming series, Gangs Of London. The series is pitched as such:
When the head of a criminal organisation is assassinated, the sudden power vacuum his death creates threatens the fragile peace between the intricate web of gangs operating on the streets of London. Now, the grieving, volatile and impulsive Sean Wallace (Joe Cole) tries to restore control and find those responsible for killing his father.
The cast seems to be comprised mainly of character actors with no one really standing out from the rest – though I am guessing by the end of this our male lead will be off to do movies in the MCU or other similar properties. Joe Cole plays said lead and has been in numerous shows such as The Bill (One Of the Queens Favorites), Black Mirror and the movie Green Room – you can already see he is an actors actor. His Father will be played by the legendary Colm Meany – Star Trek The Next Generation and Star Trek Deep Space Nine plus he was in films such as Con Air, War of the Buttons and Belfast Story. Michelle Fairley of Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and Midsummer Murders (Another one of the Queens Favorites) fame.
Rounding out the cast is Sope Dirisu (Black Mirror and Utopia), Lucian Msamati (Ultimate Force, Game of Thrones, His Dark Materials, Ashes to Ashes and Dr Who), Pippa Bennett-Warner (Dr Who and Silent Witness), Valene Kane (The Fall and Queen of the South), Jing Lusi (Stan Lee’s Lucky Man, Crazy Rich Asians and Law & Order: UK), Mark Lewis Jones ( The Last Jedi, Game of Thrones and Chernobyl) and Pakistani actor Asif Raza Mir who will be making his western debut. As you can see from the cast list and the trailer this may well be a show that does diversity right.
So you have an amazing director, a fantastic talented varied cast and a great gritty theme in one of the worlds great cities, what more could you ask for?
