The new Lost in Space trailer looks intense.

Oh Netflix why must you tease me like this, why do you gotta revive a beloved franchise and update it for a modern audience, why do you gotta keep me on my couch and why do you gotta make me love you so. The new Lost in space trailer is here and it’s looking like a true space adventure. This time round the Robinson’s are not alone they are a part of a larger colonial plan which has gone gravely wrong, this and having a much darker tone will make this different from both its previous incarnations. Do not worry the current series will still be family friendly, on this topic the  showrunner Zack Estrin had this to say:

“Fans of the original show should know we maintain the core of what was special about that experience of watching that as a child,” Estrin said. “For new fans of the show, there’s a certain baggage associated with the title. ‘Oh, that’s that campy show from the ’60s,’ or, ‘That’s that movie from the ’90s that was… what it was.’ We are taking that core of an idea—the Robinson family is striving to hold together and survive in this incredible circumstance.”

I really think this is a great idea, I am beginning to see reboots in a different light. Nothing is perfect and sometimes things age and become difficult for a new generation to understand, such as the recent friends controversy. So why not update something and use its original themes to help shine a light on modern issues.

As for updates I do really need to mention the robot. The current Robot is a mix of modern science fiction like in Mass Effect and of course classic campy sci-fi like the original Lost in Space. With our first proper glimpses at the robot and also Parker Posesy’s Dr Smith, this is really starting to look like a proper Lost in Space.
