Summer is upon us which means a new season of things to get excited about. Check out our list of nerdy things to do this month.
Watch: Masters of the Universe

After multiple writer, director and cast changes delaying the film, the world is finally getting the first Masters of the Universe film since 1987. The movie will follow Prince Adam, as he returns to his home planet, to take his destiny as He-Man, and save his home from the evil forces of Skeletor. With an exciting trailer already released, and the cast including fan favourites like Idris Elba, Morena Baccarin, and Alison Brie, audiences are eagerly anticipating its June 5th release date.
Read: Hell Space by D S Sangster and D J Sangster

Hell Space is a new science fiction epic saga set across the universe. The fate of humanity is threatened when Earth gets caught between an aeons-old war between two alien species, the Trine and the Graxx. Action packed with dynamic characters, fascinating technology, and momentous battles, fans of Battlestar Galactica and Farscape will enjoy the read. Hell Space will be released on June 28th and you can check out our review later this month.
Play: Monopoly: Star Wars™ Heroes vs. Villains

A reimagined Monopoly experience set in the Star Wars universe, players will build up a team of iconic Star Wars characters and battle with competitors for control of the galaxy as they move across storied planets and locations. Combining our favourite sci-fi franchise and our favourite board game seems like a winning formula to us, and we can’t wait for the game’s June 30th release date. It will be available across PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch (1 and 2).
Eat: Spiderman inspired strawberries

Strawberries are the perfect summer snack. But we’ve found a way to elevate them to a heroic level by making them Spiderman themed. Super easy to make and with only 3 ingredients, it’s also a great way to get in the mood for the latest Spiderman movie release next month. Get the recipe here.
Listen: Disclosure Day soundtrack by John Williams

The legendary John Williams is marking his 30th collaboration with Steven Spielberg with the soundtrack to the director’s upcoming alien encounter film Disclosure Day. Listeners are promised a substantial and poignant score that captures the Spielberg-Williams magic we’ve all enjoyed so many times before. Reviews have already heaped praise on Williams, calling it “his best score in years”. The soundtrack will be released on digital streaming services on June 19th, one week after the film’s theatrical premiere.
Visit: Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration

A celebration of illustration, the Quentin Blake Centre will have 3 galleries. The first will highlight the incredible career of Blake himself with over 100 works displayed. The next will feature the art of British-Sri Lankan illustrator, artist and designer MURUGIAH, bringing together his love of Hollywood, sci-fi and 2000s era pop-punk. The third gallery will celebrate queer depictions in comics. Sure to be both an exciting and educational day out for visitors, the Centre will be opening on 5th June in Clerkenwell.
Celebrate: Captain Picard Day

On June 16th, grab a cup of Earl Grey (hot!) and watch some classic Star Trek TNG to celebrate the USS Enterprise’s stellar captain. The annual fan-driven commemoration comes from the season 7 episode, “The Pegasus”, where schoolchildren craft paintings and models in Picard’s honour, and has been celebrated worldwide since 2007.
Stream: Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2

Returning this month is the live action series adaptation of the beloved animated show Avatar: The Last Airbender. The second season follows Aang and the Gaang on a perilous mission through the Earth Kingdom to seek the Earth King’s help in the war against the Fire Nation. With new characters, gripping action scenes and more stunning visual effects, this next chapter has great potential to outdo its first season. Fortunately, audiences won’t have to wait too long as it will be released on Netflix on June 25th.
