Watch: Resident Evil

The Resident Evil franchise has enjoyed success across video games, films, and merch over the years, and now a new film is finally being released. Fans may be hesitant as the last reboot in 2021 didn’t go well but we’re cautiously optimistic as it is in the hand of horror genius Zach Cregger, known for the critically acclaimed Barbarians and Weapons. An original story, it will follow a medical courier who must fight through a viral outbreak of infected monsters in Racoon City during a delivery. Cregger is clearly passionate about the project, describing it as his “love letter to the games” and has compared it to Evil Dead 2. Resident Evil 2 will be released in cinemas on September 18th.

Best-selling author, Alice Hoffman, of Practical Magic (whose film sequel also releases this month) is back with another spellbinding tale. At an elite women’s college in the 1950s, two students uncover a centuries-old sisterhood of witches. But someone is targeting its members, and history is repeating itself. Blending magic, history, politics, secret societies, and friendship, this seems like the ideal Autumn book, and with Hoffman at the helm, it’s sure to be an exciting read. The Witches of Cambridge will be released on September 8th.

Play: Halloween: The Game

Based on the classic film, Halloween: The Game takes place in Haddonfield on Halloween night in 1978, as residents prepare for the holiday while Michael Myers returns home. It promises players a stealth and survival game where fans can either play as Michael Myers or civilians trying to escape his reign of terror. Gamers can also choose single player or multiplayer mode. Perfect timing for fans to get in the mood for the spooky season, the game will be released on September 8th across various gaming platforms.

One of Disney’s most underrated movies, we were excited when it was announced that the musical would be coming to the West End. Sadly, after a year of performances, the show will be closing this month. For fans of the film, it’s absolutely worth getting a ticket as it’s a faithful adaptation with all of the iconic songs included and some entertaining new ones added. Full of fantastic performances, dazzling costumes and a stunning set, both adults and children alike will enjoy. You’ll have to be speedy if you want to enjoy as Hercules closes on September 5th.

Listen: Live Podcasts at the London Podcast Festival

Back for its 11th year, the London Podcast Festival will take place this year in September. Fans will be able to attend shows, meet and greets, and workshops but as always the main draw will be listening to podcasts live. There’s a fantastic line-up with geeky highlights including The Empire Film Podcast, The Final FronTia, Disniversity: The Nightmare Before Christmas Special, and We Fix Space Junk. The festival will take place between September 3rd-13th and tickets are available online.

Stream: Lego Star Wars: The Mandalorian

If you’ve had a Mando sized hole in your life since the film was released earlier this year, fear not because this month Disney+ will be delivering. As if The Mandalorian and Grogu franchise wasn’t brilliant enough, they’ve now added a Lego theme for a comedic retelling of all three seasons of the live-action series. This animated special revisits stories from the series, with all the fan favourite characters showing up. The trailer was fantastic, full of laughs and whimsy, exactly what audiences need as summer comes to an end. Lego Star Wars: The Mandalorian will premiere on Disney+ on September 2nd.
