The Perfect Time to Start Playing Star Wars: Unlimited

Look, you all know I’m a huge nerd who loves a good TTRPG, and you all know I love me some Star Wars. Somehow though, I completely missed the fact that there was a Star Wars trading card game from the legendary Fantasy Flight Games.

The good news? The game is still relatively young, meaning there’s plenty of time to jump in, learn the ropes, and get involved before things become too overwhelming. Better yet, during UK Games Expo it was revealed that Star Wars: Unlimited is getting a brand-new 194-card mini-set called Icons, specifically designed to help new and returning players get into the game without having to learn a bunch of complicated new mechanics.

One of the things that immediately grabbed my attention is the artwork. Unlike some previous Star Wars card games that relied heavily on screenshots and movie stills, Star Wars: Unlimited features original artwork across the entire game, and honestly, it’s gorgeous. This isn’t some half-baked cash-in. The production values are impressive, and the gameplay depth has earned comparisons to giants of the genre like Magic: The Gathering and Disney Lorcana.

The new Icons mini-set includes:

• 194 cards instead of the usual 250+ card release
• Eight brand-new Leader cards, including Darth Vader and Leia Organa
• A new Legendary Anakin Skywalker card
• New Rare and Legendary cards featuring fan favourites such as Darth Sidious, Lando Calrissian, and the Millennium Falcon.

If you’ve been looking for a new card game to try, or you’re simply a Star Wars fan who wants another way to experience that galaxy far, far away, Star Wars: Unlimited might be worth checking out.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to resist the urge to spend money on yet another nerdy hobby.
