I am sad to write that over the weekend veteran character actor Powers Boothe passed away. At age 68 he died peacefully in his sleep from natural causes. Many of you will know him from the Marvel Universe, DCAU’s voice for Gorilla Grodd, Hatfield and McCoys, 24 and Nashville. He was a talented actor with a deep booming voice that made him stand out from the crowd, talented and underappreciated but always active. He may have been typecast as the ubiquitous villain more often than when he was a hero but he was so good in each role that you can’t help but appreciate how much of a bastard he could really be on screen, beneath all that was a man who really cared about his craft, someone who was not afraid to turn down roles, someone who wanted to only do work that mattered and that’s what made him great.
‘Before I accept a job, I always talk to folks about it. ‘Why does he kill these 22 people?’ If they say, ‘What difference does it make?’ I know we have nothing more to talk about. A character has to be three-dimensional’. Powers Boothe
‘I’ve been fortunate in my career to have the opportunity to pick and choose the parts I play. I’ve also been lucky to always be involved with quality actors, quality directors, quality writers’. Powers Booth.
