According to an article on The Wrap the frontrunner to direct ‘The Flash’ film is Forrest Gump and Back To The Future Director Robert Zemeckis. If true he would replace original director Rick Famuyiwa, who left the film project over creative differences with the executives. Rick Famuyiwa wanted to portray an edgier vision of the story of The Flash but ultimately a solution couldn’t be worked out. “When I was approached by Warner Bros and DC about the possibility of directing The Flash, I was excited about the opportunity to enter this amazing world of characters that I loved growing up, and still do to this day,” says Famuyiwa in a statement to the Trade mag. “I was also excited to work with Ezra Miller, who is a phenomenal young actor. I pitched a version of the film in line with my voice, humor, and heart. While it’s disappointing that we couldn’t come together creatively on the project, I remain grateful for the opportunity. I will continue to look for opportunities to tell stories that speak to a fresh generational, topical, and multicultural point of view. I wish Warner Brothers, DC, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns, and Ezra Miller all the best as they continue their journey into the speed force.”
Robert Zemeckis would be a wise choice to direct as he has a proven track record for telling great stories with brilliant visual effects. I loved his films including The Back To The Future Trilogy, Forrest Gump and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Since Warner Bros didn’t want to go in the edgier direction, I’m guessing they want to go for something a bit more light hearted and Robert Zemeckis can tell emotional stories with some humour added in here and there. Maybe they want to go in the same direction as the CW Network Television series adaptation of The Flash? I guess they don’t want to go too dark, they tried it with Man Of Steel and Batman Vs Superman and it didn’t work out. I’m guessing it’s why Matthew Vaughn isn’t the frontrunner, as his direction of superhero films tend to be darker, a great example is his films Kick Ass,Kick Ass 2, X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past. On the other hand they don’t want too much comedy since sometimes it can fall flat on your face, remember Suicide Squad? But at least they learnt their lesson with Suicide Squad and won’t be rushing to make ‘The Flash’ film as they want to take their time to get it right. Although more changes could be made depending on how well Warner Bros and DC’s film ‘Wonder Woman’ does when it is released in the cinemas on June 2nd 2017. If that film doesn’t do well at the box office then it doesn’t bode well for their other films including The Justice League and Aquaman.
Joby Harold has been tapped to do rewrite “The Flash” script. Harold’s credits for the studio include “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword,” sadly this film hasn’t been performing well at the box office. I’m hoping this doesn’t mean the script won’t be good. At least Warner Bros is going in the right direction by putting DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns in charge of Warner Bros and DC Films.
