Now that both returning and open registration is finally over and done with for San Diego Comic-Con International 2017, we can all finally move onto the next agenda…hotels or what some would call hotel apocalypse.
Unless you lucked out and managed to score a downtown hotel early, the only chances of getting a hotel now are either 1. SDCC official hotel sale, which has yet to be announced when that will happen but it’s rumoured to be next month in May, or 2. Pay the sky high fees the hotels are charging that most couldn’t afford unless of course you are a studio paying for it. There is a third option if you choose not to stay in a downtown hotel and that’s the SDCC early bird hotel sale which you can check out by clicking here.
However as someone who has been attending SDCC the last couple of years, I would highly recommend trying for a downtown hotel as it saves so much time especially when there is so much happening during SDCC. Believe me even crossing the road from Hard Rock to the convention centre takes longer than you would think. After a long day of queuing, having the option of being able to walk back to your hotel to recharge for a bit, is a nice, little and sometimes overlooked advantage. Check out our guide to top downtown hotels to stay at in San Diego.
Sometimes it’s all down to sheer luck, we took part in the hotel lottery last year and only managed to get Town and Country Resort but we turned it down and opted to see what we could get from being waitlisted. After a while we thought it wasn’t going to happen but by some miracle we got offered Hard Rock Hotel, our number one choice. It just goes to show that you shouldn’t give up as you never know.
Good luck to those taking part in the next step of the San Diego Comic-Con International 2017 adventure, securing a downtown hotel which will hopefully happen soon.
