Guide to the 2015 MTV Fandom Awards and Fan Fest at San Diego Comic-Con


MTV Fandom Awards and Fan Fest is back for a second year at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Having attended last years event and the mtvU Woodie Awards, earlier this year at SXSW 2015, we can say without a doubt that MTV knows how to party and take care of their fans.

If you want free food, drinks and entertainment then make sure you head down to Petco Park during San Diego Comic-Con, on Thursday 9th July, for the 2015 MTV Fandom Awards and Fan Fest. The “MTV Fandom Fest” is a free party at Petco Park open to all Comic-Con badge holders with food, drinks, games and giveaways. Even if you don’t have a valid Comic-Con badge, fear not as there is always hope. Priority admittance is give to Comic-Con badge holders due to limited capacity but that doesn’t mean those without shouldn’t try. If you are a Comic-Con badge holder then there is nothing to lose unless you intend to queue overnight for the Star Wars: The Force Awakens panel on the following day (Friday 10th July).

The hosts at the 2015 Fandom Awards Fan Fest include Tyler Posey and Bella Thorne. They will be joined by special “MTV Fandom” correspondents “Girl Code’s” Carly Aquilino and social media star Lohanthony.

This year, 32 nominees are competing for the “Fandom of the Year” Award. They include The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Mad Max: Fury Road, Pitch Perfect 2, Empire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, Teen Wolf and Arrow. The winners will be decided by bracket-style voting. The network also announced the nominees for “Ship of the Year,” celebrating the unspoken relationships that fandoms are dying to see. The awards will be handed out at the second annual “MTV Fandom Awards,” which will take place along with the “MTVFandom Fest” on Thursday, July 9 at Petco Park during Comic-Con San Diego. MTV will premiere the 60-minute “MTV Fandom Awards Special” on Sunday, July 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, celebrating the honorees and showcasing some of the best moments from the show.

The full list of all 32 nominees for the “Fandom of the Year” award presented by Kit Kat bars is included below and fans can vote for all of their favorites at The nominees in the category for “The Ship of the Year” award are “Clexa” from “The 100” (Clarke and Lexa), “Olicity” from “Arrow” (Felicity and Oliver), “Karmy” from “Faking It” (Karma and Amy), “Emison” from “Pretty Little Liars” (Emily and Alison), “Sciles” from “Teen Wolf” (Scott and Stiles), and “Bamon” from “The Vampire Diaries” (Bonnie and Damon). MTV will launch a unique post for each of the “Ship of the Year” nominees on the MTV Tumblr page, with the winner determined by the post with the largest vote count. Voting for this award will run through July 8.

“The Vampire Diaries” leads the pack of previously announced nominees with three nominations in the “Fandom of the Year,” “Ship of the Year” and “Feels Freak Out of the Year” categories.  Previously announced nominees, Mad Max: Fury Road, Star Wars, “Faking It,” “Arrow,” Empire and “Teen Wolf” round out the standings with two nominations each.


“The ‘Fandom of the Year’ award celebrates some of the loudest fandoms in pop culture,” said Ryan Kroft, Senior Vice President of Programming Specials and Events for MTV. “We love having the bracket back in action for the second year in a row.”

“Shipping on Tumblr is serious business, so I’m thrilled we’re able to celebrate all of the community’s passions by opening it up to a democratic process with MTV Fandom Awards, said Amandalyn Ferri, Tumblr’s Culture & Trends expert. “Personally, I ship #Karmy (“Faking It”), but we’ll see which couple’s hypothetical love prevails when voting on Tumblr ends and San Diego Comic-Con begins.”

Beginning on Wednesday, July 8, MTV will launch “Fandom Week,” a take-over by fans and celebrity fans, alike, across every MTV platform with segments on-air, on digital and across MTV’s social platforms. Stars like Selena Gomez, Jason Derulo, MGK, Kit Harrington and many more will share their favorite movies, shows and characters, while “MTV Fandom” correspondents Carly Aquilino (MTV’s “Girl Code”) and social media star Lohanthony, will be on the ground bringing viewers the best of Comic-Con International: San Diego and all of the fun from “MTV Fandom Fest.” “Fandom Week” will culminate on Sunday, July 12 with the “MTV Fandom Awards Special” airing at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.
