NBC TV Promo Reviews (2015-2016)

nbcprimetime

So it’s that time of year again: Upfronts week. We’ll finally get a definitive answer on whether our favourite shows are returning as well as getting sneak peeks into the 2015-2016 television season. NBC was the first to kick off proceedings this week unveiling its Fall programming schedule and releasing promos for its new shows. We were treated to trailers for two action shows, a medical drama and a comedy series, as well as a promo for the reboot Heroes Reborn. So without further ado let’s take a look at what NBC has to offer.

Blindspot

What’s it about: A naked woman covered in tattoos with no memory of her past is found in Time Square. The FBI soon gets involved as they discover the names of one of their agents inked on her back. Together they work to uncover the complex mystery of her origin and what the tattoos mean.

What we think: The description of Blindspot had me very eager to see the promo. I was expecting big things and I wasn’t disappointed. As to be expected there’s a ton of action but it also looks to be quite a cerebral show. The mystery behind the woman and her tattoos looks to be intriguing and the scenes in the trailer only do more to draw us in. Jaimie Alexander looks very capable in the kickass leading role and we have to give her props for the amount of time she’s going to have spend having those tattoos applied.

Excitement factor: 4/5

Heartbreaker

What’s it about: There are only a few female heart transplant surgeons in the world. Alex Panettiere is one of them. The outspoken doctor brings an innovative approach to treating her patients whilst balancing a complicated personal life.

What we think: Melissa George makes this promo. She makes Alex instantly likeable and thereby makes us an audience connect. Although if you’ve seen her in Alias you’ll know how brilliant of an actress she is and this won’t surprise you. However for the first time ever in a medical drama I’m actually more interested by the medical side of things, rather than personal lives of the doctors (which by the way seemed slightly forced in this trailer). The use of innovative technology and procedures makes this medical drama standout and I think it’ll be interesting to watch play out.

Excitement factor: 3.5/5

Heroes Reborn

What’s it about: Ordinary people discover they have extraordinary powers. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. (I’m guessing it’s going to be very similar to the original series)

What we think: I’ll admit I was a big fan of Heroes. Even though it had its stumbles throughout its 4 season run I was still sad when it ended. So when a reboot was announced excitement set in. So far we’ve only been given a 15 second promo and yet it’s making fans squeal. We get to see newcomer Luke Collins played by Zachary Levi as well as fan favourite Noah Bennett AKA HRG. There is also a mysterious figure controlling an aurora which results in a visually stunning trailer. But alas there are still so many questions that need to be answered. Maybe a full length promo would help. Come on NBC, stop teasing us.

Excitement factor: 4.5/5

People are Talking

What’s it about: Two couples who also happen to be neighbours and best friends go through life side by side dealing with all sorts of hilarious issues including the fact that their new babysitter may be a porn star.

What we think: It actually looks very funny and with Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Tone Bell in the leads the show seems promising. However it has been given an awful time slot and with so many comedies cancelled in the 2014-2015 season I wonder if it’s doomed before it begins. On a more positive note the chemistry between the characters looks great and the promo was entertaining. Let’s hope its pilot can deliver and earn some ratings.

Excitement factor: 3.5/5

The Player

What it’s about: After the murder of his wife a former military operative turned security expert is drawn into a dangerous game where an organization of wealthy individuals gamble on his ability to stop some of biggest crimes imaginable happening.

What we think: My first thoughts after seeing this promo- Person of Interest meets Scorpion, which in my head only means good things. The trailer was jam packed with action and Phillip Winchester looks good as the lead managing to hold his own against the legendary Wesley Snipes. Most shocking is that Snipes is playing more of a reserved character rather than taking part in the action. But it works well and Snipes seems like he’s relishing the role. Full of excitement and entertainment The Player definitely wins the award for NBC’s best promo and I’ll be counting down the days till the pilot.

Excitement factor: 5/5
