As well as the Exhibition Hall, Panels and off-site events, there is a Film Festival happening during San Diego Comic Con International. The Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival is often overshadowed by Comic Con itself, which is a tragic loss considering the talent attending and the films shown at the festival.
I’ve attended quite a few film festivals this year including Edinburgh International Film Festival. Film Festivals is the best event to see films that you otherwise will hardly ever get a chance to see especially since films shown at Festivals tend to have limited distribution. Take for example Snowpiercer (2013), one of the best films I’ve seen at EIFF 2014, which is receiving rave reviews critically but unfortunately it is struggling to find distributors.
I guess nowadays it’s easier for companies to take risks with what they consider potential cash cows, which is why we’ve seen a surge in recent years of films based on Superheroes. Nevertheless I highly recommend this film, it’s the closet we will probably ever get to a live action Bioshock movie, which this film isn’t based on but the many references within the film is hard not to miss.
The CCI-IFF will feature films from around the world, including the United States, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, Philippines, Russia, South Korea, Spain, and Trinidad and Tobago.
The Festival features the very best in genre films in seven categories: Action/Adventure, Animation, Comics-Oriented, Documentary (Pop Culture-Oriented), Horror/Suspense, Humor/Parody, and Science Fiction/Fantasy
