Dynamite: Red Sonja 2021 Holiday Special

Though I love the Vampirella Holiday special I do adore this release too, even if it is a very different beast. If you are looking for some jolly laughs, then I am sorry to say here you will not find any. Nope, instead, you will find some gritty action and fantastic storytelling.

It is the 1st of December and I am proud to say that this was my first Xmas media of the month. I hope you will all enjoy it as much as I have.

The first story, Sonja’s Carol, is not a fun Christmas-themed tale, oh heavens no that would not do. It is instead a warning against the evil we do in our lives, but it is one with a bit of hope, the hope that we may change. Which in itself is a classic holiday theme. But as this is a story about Red Sonja she does do a little killing and is the definition of utter badass.

It was a short but sweet story and Mirka Andolfo & Luca Blengino have created something which is the perfect blend of Red Sonja and Christmas classics like The Family Man, starring Nic Cage, or even a Christmas Carol. Like this piece both those tales see their protagonists make a grand and dramatic change to their lives. And not only did this story end with some hope but it was filled with stunning art courtesy of Zulema Scotto, even if you are not into anything Christmasy, you will still appreciate the work they have put into this book.

The second story is also courtesy of Mirka Andolfo & Luca Blengino, this one goes back to the more Pagan routes of the Winter Equinox. And see’s our heroine journey to find a killer, only to come face to face with a mystical madman. That is all I will say about that because it is a nice original tale, something I think you will all enjoy and I do not to spoil it for you. Though I will tell you that I loved the artwork by Carmelo Zagaria, who truly went above and beyond with all these gorgeous night scenes, ones brought to life with the colors of Nicolo Laporini and Arancia Studio, who also worked on the first story.

This book is the perfect way to kick off your December, so why not grab yourself a copy and get in the Holiday spirit.
