I grew up watching Smallville, I will admit it was a guilty pleasure and it’s why i’m intrigued by this new series as it will explore Kal-El’s home planet Krypton. I’m even more excited to hear that it will be filmed so close to where I live and work. Krypton is an upcoming American cable television series developed by David S. Goyer and Damian Kindler for Syfy. The show is set in Superman’s home planet, approximately 200 years before the time period of the Man of Steel film.
Krypton will be the first production to shoot at Belfast’s newest film studio Belfast Harbour Studios,pre-production will start in Belfast this month with a shoot date in late summer. The film production company Warner Horizon was in the city earlier on in the week to sign a lease to rent the studio to film the Krypton TV series.
Belfast Harbour Studio sits on Giant’s Park, Belfast. The £20m project includes over 120,000 sq ft of studios, workshops and offices. The film studio will take up 8 acres of the overall 340 acre Giant’s Park/North Foreshore site.
“We are delighted to welcome Warner Horizon to Northern Ireland,” commented Richard Williams, CEO, Northern Ireland Screen. “Securing Krypton is a real coup for us and cements our position as a world-class filming location with a local and highly skilled crew-base with vast experience. The construction of the new studios by Belfast Harbour has added tremendous value to our overall proposition.”
Here’s hoping the cast and crew make an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con this July with a panel discussion on what we can expect. It could be possible since filming isn’t expected to begin until late Summer but then again they could all be too busy with pre production and they wouldn’t have any footage to show yet.
