Mega Princess #1 of 5 Comic Book Review

This story isn’t about your typical fairy tale princess. On Princess Maxine’s 10th birthday, her fairy godmother grants her the gifts of every fairy tale princess, which…sounds a lot cooler than it actually is, in Max’s opinion. She doesn’t want to sing on key or feel a pea under 20 mattresses—she wants to be a detective! This is the book I think we all need right now, in a world where political fallout is upsetting everyone, the long dark days of winter are beginning to drag in and we still have a month until our next Star Wars film, what can I say it’ s a grim dark time and this book is fun, funky and adorable, it’s what the doctor ordered. When disaster strikes and her little brother, Prince Robert VI AKA Baby Bobs, goes missing, Max and Justine, her talking pony, are on the case and her new Mega Princess powers just might come in handy after all!

This is the book for every little girl who has ever been told she needs to be a girly girl. Maxine is most definitely a girl but a girl on her own terms. Maxine is willful and bratty but utterly adorable, you can’t help but love this kid and she really makes this book a joy to read through. Maxine may only be ten but there is a lot we can learn from her and I was shocked to say that I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more. If you have enjoyed the Pink Ranger comic book series that Boom have been producing then you will be happy to know that this comic book series is from the same creative mind, so go check it out.
