BOOM! Studios Announces Exclusives for San Diego Comic-Con International 2016

Award-winning comic book publisher BOOM! Studios and its imprints, KaBOOM!, BOOM! Box, and Archaia, announced its exclusives for this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, to be held at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California July 20-24 2016.

The following exclusives will be available for purchase at its booth, #2229:

unnamed

Adventure Time Comics #1 SDCC Exclusive ($10)
Cover by Pat McHale & Sam McHale
Writers: Tony Millionaire, Katie Cook, and Art Baltazar
Artists: Tony Millionaire, Katie Cook, and Art Baltazar

The first issue of a new KaBOOM! ongoing series featuring some of the industry’s best cartoonists telling Adventure Time stories in their own voices bears a cover by Over the Garden Wall creator Pat McHale and his son, Sam. The crazy adventures of Finn and Jake never ceases to amaze me and it certainly won’t stop here.

Jim Henson’s Labyrinth 30th Anniversary Special SDCC Exclusive ($20)
Cover by Mark A. Schneider
Writers: Jonathan Case, Cory Godbey, Gustavo Duarte, Ted Naifeh & Adrianne Ambrose, and Adam Smith
Artists: Daniel Bayliss, Cory Godbey, Gustavo Duarte, Kyla Vanderklugt, and Jeff Stokely

Featuring fan-favorite characters like Ludo, Hoggle, Sir Didymus, and a few surprises, this special celebration collects for the first time all of the Labyrinth Free Comic Book Day stories along with new tales from Eisner Award winner Jonathan Case (The New Deal), Gustavo Duarte (Bizarro), and more! The cover features a replica of Jareth’s mask that can be popped out! Has it really been 30 years since Labyrinth debuted? Yes this certainly makes me feel old and nostalgic at the same time although I’ve yet to see the film again ever since David Bowie tragically left this world earlier this year. Here’s hoping this special 30th anniversary edition does the film justice as well.

unnamed (2)

Lucas Stand #1 ($10)
Cover by Chris Visions
Writers: Kurt Sutter and Caitlin Kittredge
Artist: Jesús Hervás

The debut issue of Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter’s first original comic book series about a dead man enlisted by Lucifer to send wayward demons back to Hell features a cover by Dead Letters artist Chris Visions. This is sure to be an interesting read especially since Kurt Sutter is behind it, this will hopefully help fill the void left by the end of Sons of Anarchy. I have a feeling this could be the beginning of another possible TV series by Kurt.

unnamed (3)

Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy #1 SDCC Exclusive ($10)
Cover by Lissa Treiman
Writer: Chynna Clugston Flores
Artist: Rosemary Valero-O’Connell

The dream crossover event of the summer features a cover by original Giant Days artist Lissa Treiman.

unnamed (10)

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #5 SDCC Exclusive ($25)
Cover by Goñi Montes
Writer: Kyle Higgins Artist: Thony Silas

This exclusive features an Armored Black Ranger cover image, the last in this style of covers by Goñi Montes.  Mighty Morphin Power Rangers remains as popular as ever as it did 20 years ago and I doubt it will change especially with the new film out next year and the new comic series out this year thanks to BOOM! Studios.

unnamed (12)

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Pink #1 SDCC Exclusive ($20)
Cover by Felipe Smith
Writers: Brenden Fletcher & Kelly Thompson

Part 3 of a four-part connecting cover set by Felipe Smith!
