Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Pink #1 (OF 6) Review

For many boys in the 90’s she was our first crush, though we may have been too young to admit it that and you know pink was for girls. Oh how times have changed first off we all grew up and have realized that having a crush on a girl was perfectly normal and secondly wearing pink is also perfectly acceptable and can look damm cool, if done correctly. If you have been keeping up with my articles recently you will have seen that Boom! Studios have launched their fantastic Power Rangers series, which is perfect since the new movie is not so far off. The series is outstanding as it has taken something I loved as a child and kept all the good things in it then updated what needed updating.

Kimberly was often accused of being too much of a stereotypical female, yeah that was what I read, I know what they meant when they wrote that but can you be any more condescending? Reading this comic you get to see the 21st century model, she looks the same and has a lot of the original’s personality traits but she is very much a badass. This comic is set after the other series when Kimberly has given up her powers and retired. She is now living in France and struggling to adjust to her new life in a new land and without any super powers. There are some nice touches here as they have helped make Kimberly a modern women. Sure she is still feminine but she is no little girl but more like a proud lioness driving off on her motorbike, grabbing her driving leathers and compact bow in a last ditch effort to save her family. We even get to see what safety precautions Zordon takes with his retired Rangers to keep them safe, something I myself always wondered. This is an action packed mystery series that long time fans and new readers are all going to enjoy.

The creative team was perfect for this I mean who better than Batgirl and Gotham Academy writer Brenden Fletcher and A-Force and Jem and the Holograms writer Kelly Thompson to bring it to us! BTW if you have not read Gotham Academy go pick up a copy as it’s one of DC’s more unique series and it’s a great read from start to finish and is definitely one of my favourites. So guys the original Pink is back and she is totally kicking ass, with new enemies a new suit and new powers to go with it. I highly advise you to grab a copy of this soon because it’s pretty epic.
