Lumberjanes Gotham Academy #1 (OF 6) Review

What happens when you have 2 of the most unique series out there right now Lumberjanes (the Quaint sweet adventure series from Boom! Studios) meets Gotham Academy (one of DC’s most unique ongoing series), Day vs Night, Son of Krypton vs Bat oh wait that’s completely wrong.

Warning: There may be possible spoilers ahead.

This series will follow the Lumberjanes from Miss Quinzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady Types, a summer camp whose attendees are known as Lumberjane scouts. The five scouts of the Roanoke cabin – Jo, April, Molly, Mal and Ripley, who have spent there time investigating the supernatural forces in the woods are forced to team up with their new unlikely allies the kids from the Prestigious Gotham Academy – Olive, Maps and Co as both teams investigate this mysterious building in the woods.

LJGothamAcademy_001_PRESS-7I have already read and seen plenty of cross-overs before but none like this. It is a unique take on the genre based on where both sets of characters come from, half from their own world and the other half from the DC universe, though I won’t get too hung up on those details just yet. Its got some beautiful art work that shows the innocence of the series, it’s vibrant and just a joy to look at. This book is a much need refreshing break from the darker tone many of the books I’ve been reading as of late. Not that it’s a full bundle of joy, just there are no end of the world issues or bodies being sliced in half, as you can see my standards for happiness are incredibly low.
