I know a lot of people are going on about this online right now, but I thought I would way in on this theory. So to catch all you kiddies up on this theory it states that Jar Jar Binks was the real Phantom Menace. Now there is a lot of hate for Jar Jar, just look at the video below and you will understand exactly how many of the older generation felt about him.
It was different for me when Phantom Menace came out as I was young enough to enjoy the film and not old enough to be cynical so yes I didn’t hate Jar Jar, in fact I kind of thought the Gungan’s where cool, not Jar Jar but the rest of his species, I would like to make that point clear. Of course as I grew up he became something I absolutely despised. But when you find out what was revealed about Jar Jar in the first film, that George Lucas admits he wanted him to be a Buster Keaton-esque character, which kind of explains his behavior, though this new fan theory goes a bit further and gives us a new reason for Jar Jar Binks and his tom foolery.
Breaking it down there are some major points to this theory :
Both he and the Emperor are from the same planet, bare in mind the republic is huge, so being from the same planet means you have a high chance of knowing someone, especially if you are both strong in the force. The two dark side adepts would be drawn to each other like a moth to a flame, maybe one was the master over the other, like Jar Jar training a young Emperor. Maybe he would get some sick pleasure out of faking it and pretending to be a village idiot only to turn on his allies and murder them when they least expect it.
The theory states that Jar Jar would use a martial arts similar to that of Zui Quan (drunken boxing style). Where the fighter pretends to act like a drunken baffoon to through his or her oponent off balance. That’s actually pretty genius and I know it’s hard to believe but think about it there are several occasions where his moronic behavior actually helped save the day. Maybe it was just lazy story telling though if this was the truth that would have been awesome.
‘Zui Quan (Chinese: 醉拳, drunken fist) is a general name for all the styles of Chinese martial arts that imitate a drunkard. It is an ancient style and its origins are mainly traced back to the famous Buddhist and Daoist sects. The Buddhist style is related to the Shaolin temple while the Daoist style is based on the Daoist tale of the drunken Eight Immortals. Zui quan has the most unusual body movements among all styles of Chinese martial arts. Hitting, grappling, locking, dodging, feinting, ground and aerial fighting and all other sophisticated methods of combat are incorporated.‘
Droids hate him
Throughout the first film the droid just hated him, R2 nudges him, C3PO finds him weird and several others also act weird round him. It’s like they can sense something that normal life forms cannot sense. Once again this may mean nothing but it still is an interesting idea.
No respect for the Jedi
He shows a lot of disrespect towards the Jedi even going as far as to insult the force right to their faces. Maybe it’s his ignorance or maybe he just does not give a fuck because he is that powerful.
Drawn to Anikan
They kept running into Anikan and each time was because of Jar Jar. Who in the end befriended the young boy and influenced him a lot.
He must be a master of mind control
On several occasions you see proof of Jar Jar convincing people to act against the nature, like the Jedi taking him in, or Padme going to war, his people making him General or even convincing the senate to relinquish all power. Seriously would you knowingly make this guy a General?
Close to Palpatine
There are several occasion where you see Jar Jar and the future Emperor spending time together right from the first film, I don’t know about you but I am a pretty nice guy and I would struggle never mind being a genocidal racist like the Emperor. Seriously why are they standing beside each other?
Interested in Padme
Right from the start he had a keen interest in this young girl, even before it was revealed that she was the Queen and not the decoy.
Think of Yoda when we first meet him, he is annoying and kind of a joke but by the time Luke leaves him we are like, WTF this little dude is a total power house, Lucas loved that idea, the surprise character who made you think one thing, then changed it up half way through and left you shocked. Apparently the new trilogy was to mirror the old one so maybe this was the intention the whole time which kind of makes sense. Imagine if at the end of of Attack of the Clones instead of a show down with Darth Tyranous played by Christopher Lee you had this badass agile Gungan that shocked everyone. Now that would have been epic.
Sadly we could have had this.
But we may have let George down and lost our faith in him. If this theory is true then we are all truly sorry, well I am. But then again this is just a fan theory. What do you guys think, is he just a clumsy oaf exiled for the dumbest reason in history or was his people actually terrified of him but didn’t know why?
