The Final Girls will have its world premiere as the opening night film to the 2015 SXSW Film Festival. What better way to open the festival on Friday the 13th than with a comedy horror, in fact Director Todd Strauss-Schulson summed it up best;
“It’s Pleasantville in a trashy horror movie from the 80s with a little Back to the Future thrown in, and a spoon full of Terms of Endearment with a dash of Scream and two dollops of Purple Rose of Cairo for good measure.”
I loved Pleasantville and Back to the Future is one of the films I’ve watched countless times and yet I still haven’t got bored of it. Scream was a comedy horror classic, and any film that can be described with a mix of these three films, is a winner in my book.
A young woman mourning the loss of her mother, a famous scream queen from the 1980s, finds herself pulled into the world of her mom’s most famous movie. Reunited, the women must fight off the film’s maniacal killer.
The films cast include Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story), Malin Akerman (Trophy Wife, Children’s Hospital, Watchmen, Rock of Ages), Alexander Ludwig (Vikings, Hunger Games), Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development), Nina Dobrev (Vampire Diaries, Lets Be Cops), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley) and Adam Devine (Pitch Perfect).
