It’s quirky, crazy, adorable and oh so naughty all at once. Garfunkel and Oates are as wonderful and unique as its main stars. Before we get into the show it’s probably best that you get an education on who this dynamic duo is. You will have seen these two in so many shows and movies, it’s great to see them land their own series. These potty mouthed actress/comedian/song writers are Kate Micucci (The Big Bang Theory and Raising Hope) and Riki Lindhome ( Million Dollar Baby and Much Ado About Nothing).
Since 2007 they have been creating songs that, unless you’re dead inside, will bring a smile to your face. Their music has been used on both Scrubs and The Nerdist, even having their own comedy central special they now have their own series and well that’s what we are here to talk about today.
(One of their great songs to give you an idea of what you are in for.)
Garfunkel and Oates is pure comedy genius. I won’t lie, for about the first 120 seconds I felt a little unsure, but once the first episode got under way I really couldn’t stop laughing. It’s the most peculiar mix of quirky and witty, the show is truly one of a kind. The girls portray fictional versions of themselves, it kind of harkens me back to Flight of the Conchords but with more mass appeal.
The girls have perfect onscreen chemistry, I know people say don’t work with friends, but seriously when the match-up is this perfect why would you miss the chance? They are willing to scrutinize themselves and the world around them in equal amounts. It’s the recipe for the perfect comedy show, all it needs is great direction and luckily they have that. With every episode set to be directed by Fred Savage, seriously if you don’t know who he is then I’m worried for you, the show is set to be a massive hit. The pilot was just wonderful and upbeat, plus had one of the greatest cameos I have seen in a while. All I can say is that anyone who thinks girls can’t be funny, seriously sit back and watch this show and enjoy being proven wrong.
And just to give you a little more, because god knows you will want more :
