If there was a more satisfying way to end a series then I really cannot think of it. Angel, hands down has one of the best finales in all of TV history.
Just to remind you all, the final scene has what few remaining heroes we have left staring down an army of monsters. They are hopelessly outnumbered, with a veritable horde that has giants and a bloody dragon. When Angel is asked what to do he simply states, “Well personally I kind of want to slay the dragon, now lets go to work.”
How can you not love that?
You hear blades crack then the scene fades to black. When asked about is Joss Whedon had this to say, “That ain’t a cliff. I understand why people would want closure, but for me, that would be like adding a cliff note to the end. What I always wanted to say is, trying to become worthy of the life that you have is a life’s work. The fight is for always.”
While David Boreanaz, who played Angel, says he is “comfortable with the way they’re ending it. It’s very open-ended and goes out fighting.”
So why the hell am I talking about Angel again?
Well our chums over at the Drew And Look Podcast have put out their analysis and breakdown or is it a celebration, of the second half of this series most excellent final season.
Getting into this Podcast really reminded me how much I bloody loved this show. Trust me I waxed on about it in a previous article. This season specifically the second half was what cemented my love for everything that came before. If you ever need any proof ask to see my interview with the delightful Amy Acker, she is lovely, but I was a complete mess, I kind of go on about Angel season 5 a lot and am so glad that the interview will never see the light of day.
I know if you are a fan of the series then you are going to love this podcast, trust me it is worth checking out.
As for you non fans, well the word is still going to hell so this is the perfect chance to give Angel a go. The series may be related to Buffy buy you really can watch them separately, anyone with half a brain will be able to fill in the blanks. Then when your done come check the podcast out.
