Looking For A Wedding Distraction

At this point I feel that everyone is a little fatigued by the “Royal Wedding”. Do not get me wrong, I hold no ill will to the happy couple and I wish them all the joys and happiness that I would wish any bride and groom, but I am a little run down by the coverage, mostly the tabloids and certain members of extended families behaving very childish.  So with that in mind I have 10 altenrate wedding themed Films and Episodes that you could maybe tuck into this weekend, you know to mix things up, some of these are very sweet, some funny and others down right miserable, call it a slice of life and hope you all enjoy. BTW If you are several seasons behind in game of thrones I suggest you turn away before you get to number three.

10.The Bride of Frankenstein

The movie starts as an immediate sequel to the original Frankenstein film and is rooted in a subplot of the original Mary Shelley novel. In the film, a chastened Henry Frankenstein abandons his plans to create life, only to be tempted and finally coerced by his old mentor Dr. Pretorius, along with threats from the Monster, into constructing a mate for the Monster. This one is a real treat and still considered to this day to be one of the greatest sequels ever made. A classic if not weird way to start my top 10.

9.Lisa’s Wedding

Directly out of Season 6 of the Simpsons, this 1995 episode see’s Lisa getting a glimpse into her future where she meet’s Hugh Parkfield, played by the always brilliant Mandy Patinkin, they meet they fall in love and then the wedding is cancelled. I know depressing right, but sill a classic and funny episode.

8.Father of the Bride (1991)

I am not using the original for this one, instead I am going with the Steve Martin version. Its sweet, light hearted, funny and something the entire family can watch. Also Martin Short as the wedding planner, well that is just comedy genius.

7.The Wedding Singer

Another comedy, Adam Sandler plays Robbie, a singer who is stood up on his wedding say, but he meets Julia, a waitress, who is engaged, to a giant douche-bag. Fortune and Billy Idol intervene to help them discover each other. I know Adam Sandler get’s a bad rap but trust me this one is a classic and will surprise you.

6.Mama Mia

Look it has an all Abba sound track with James Bond, A Kingsmen, Thor’s Scientist friend, Leonard from the Big Bang Theory’s mother, The Iron Lady and Howard Stark, just tell me this film does not belong on a nerd based website, go on I dare ya !

5.The Princess Bride

A true comedy classic and Mandy Patinkin’s second appearance on this list, if you have not seen this one I highly recommend you watch it. It is actually that good that I refuse to tell you any more about it.

4.The One with Ross’s Wedding

A classic Tv moment that had the whole world in shock. It is not as sweet as other weddings in the series but its one of the most iconic Tv moments of all time and hard to top. One of the greatest moments in Friends, up there with “We where on a break”, Phalange and “How You do’in”.

3.The Red Wedding / Purple Wedding

At this point I thought I would ride that nihalism train to its logical end with the most brutal and then the most satisfying weddings that Television has ever had. If you have never watched Gmae of Thrones, these two scenes alone make the series worth while.

2.Ever After

This updated adaptation of Cinderella, this film tells the story of Danielle (Drew Barrymore), a vibrant young woman who is forced into servitude after the death of her father. Danielle’s stepmother Rodmilla (Anjelica Huston) is kind of a bitch who forces Danielle to do the cooking and cleaning, while she tries to marry off her own two daughters. But Danielle’s life takes a wonderful turn when she meets the charming Prince Henry. You may be surpirsed to know that yes I like this film and I will not be judged for it. I might as well include one fairy tale wedding on this list.

1.Parks and Recreation – Leslie and Ben

“Leslie and Ben” is the fourteenth episode of season 5 of Parks and Recreation. Of everything that is on this list this is the only one to make me emotional, for laughs its one of the weakest in the season, but unlike everything else on this list its just so sweet that it actually makes me tear up ever so slightly. This Episode see’s Leslie and Ben finally tie the knot and things don’t really go to plan but still the episode is full of such sweet moments its really worth the watch.

So did I miss anything or did I get it just right?
