One of the great tricks that The Force Awakens pulled on us was, just who is the Jedi in these films? For a long time we all believed it was Finn, mostly because of a few clever trailers and the down playing of Rey in the toys and marketing. It was a great surprise to us all especially when it came to the epic duel at the end between Rey and Kylo. Though I still have to wonder, could Finn be force sensitive? When asked about the fan theory John Boyega had this to say:
“Would I like to be a Jedi? I think it would be interesting if they had more than one person be a Jedi— but I think that is one of the unspoken laws of Star Wars,” he said. “They only have one who has to go away and train.”
Of course we cannot trust that, not calling Mr Boyega a liar, but he is not going to give away a major spoiler in an interview.
So could Finn be force Sensitive? Honestly there is no concrete evidence for this just some fan speculation but here is what I find compelling. When Snoke and Kylo are talking in The Force Awakens they have this conversation:
Supreme Leader Snoke: There has been an awakening. Have you felt it?
Kylo Ren: Yes.
Supreme Leader Snoke: The dark side, and the light. The droid you seek is aboard the Millennium Falcon in the hands of your father, Han… Solo.
This is before Rey has her awakening with the lightsaber, it could be bad writing or this could refer to Finn’s defection and survival of Jakku, which could have triggered his powers. Speaking of lightsaber’s, Finn a conscript in the first order managed to hold his own for awhile against Kylo Ren, someone who is considered by his master to be “The Chosen One”, now I know Kylo was hurt, but surely that would have fueled his power in the Dark Side. It may mean nothing or it could mean everything.
Then there is his reaction to the destruction of the Hosnian System. Finn was the first to react, it hearkens me back to this little quote:
“I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.”
Once again it could be poor editing or it could be everything.
My final reason is simple, it’s not what we would expect, think about it, now that we have Rey, why would we need another Force user? Also the fact that Rey turned out to be a possible Jedi has helped push him further from the eyes of the viewers. What if Finn is force Sensitive just not as strong as Rey?
