Suicide Squad-what we know and what we can assume

So you’re a super-villain and you have committed some villainous acts well the U.S. government could lock you up and through away the key, but that is very costly. How about they offer you a clean slate and all you need to do is serve your country by doing a couple of missions in a black ops outfit. That’s the idea behind the Suicide squad otherwise known as Task Force X, this is a much grittier look at the main stream comic book universe, one that audiences will hopefully love.

Presenting our cast for the suicide squad from left, the lineup shows Adam Beach as Slipknot, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara down in front as Katana, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc and Jay Hernandez as El Diablo. We will be talking about the Joker, portrayed by Jared Leto in another article.

Slipknot’s aka Christopher Weiss.  For any of you who were fans of the band and are disappointed that they are not in the film please click here. Christopher originally worked for a chemical company in the southern United States, where he developed his formula for the durable ropes, ropes he would later use as Slipknot. Weiss in a master assassin and has unbreakable ropes which he uses for his schemes, admittedly he isn’t an A-list villain but in this sort of team he could prove invaluable.

Captain Boomerang

George “Digger” Harkness, best known under his alias Captain Boomerang or just Boomerang, is a super-villain who appears in American comic books published by DC Comics. One of the more well known characters on this team having appeared in Justice League and one of the Arrow/Flash cross overs. Digger is a well trained hand to hand combatant who has a variety of trick Boomerangs he uses when in combat. Before you rolelyour eyes just remember that Batman uses Batarangs which are pretty much boomerangs.

Enchantress is a DC Comics character who has been both a superheroine and supervillainess. She first appeared in National Comics (now DC Comics) flagship science fiction anthology title Strange Adventures #187 , with the ability to wield various types of magical spells. My best memories of her were from the Shadowpact series where she was a protagonist, to sum this lady up, she is a heavy hitter and one not to mess with.

Katana is a highly proficient hand-to-hand combatant and swordswoman, having studied martial arts as a child and later being trained by the samurai Tadashi. From her time with the Outsiders and Batman, she has also developed strong tactical skills. One of the best characters in modern comics, a strong and deadly Japanese warrior who is among DC’s best martial artists, she has had a few small screen appearances in The Brave and the Bold, but people will recognize a version of her from this current season of Arrow appearing in both the Hong Kong flash backs and also briefly in the mid season main story arc. She has some mystical ties with a sword that absorbs souls and apparently lets you communicate with them, but I think these will be dropped or maybe expanded upon later. In addition to her primary sword, Katana often carries additional weaponry into battle. An interesting note is I don’t think she was ever a member of the Suicide Squad so it’s weird they would put her on the team but the writers have their reasons.

Rick Flag

The leader of the team. Flag is an expert in military, Special Forces, guerrilla tactics, strategy, and demolitions. He is also highly trained in both armed and unarmed combat stealth, surveillance, and infiltration it’s no wonder this all American hero is leader of a rag tag band of misfits and madmen. He is in the unit voluntarily and is not one to mess with since he is at the peak of human physical condition.

Harley Quinn

Harley needs no introduction, let’s face it she would probably make one for herself. Most people know her as the Joker’s wacky side kick but she is more than that as she is trained in the field of psychiatry, a talented gymnast, high intelligence, high martial arts skills and has a complete disregard for human life. In the comics she has some super human level powers but I’m thinking those won’t be used. I am still unsure about this one, casting is perfect and the toned down outfit looks cool but I feel Harley is a character some people like for all the wrong reasons, then again even though people are using the #notmyharley. I have to disagree I am loving this new look and hoping it will work out in the end.

One of my old favorites and a Suicide Squad staple. Deadshot (Floyd Lawton) is a fictional antihero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Within the DC Universe, Deadshot is often a hired assassin, regularly boasting to “never miss”. He is capable of using a large variety of weapons, but is most frequently portrayed as using a pair of silenced, wrist-mounted guns.

Killer Croc

Killer Croc is more a force of nature than a man with a list of abilities that reads like this:

  • Superhuman strength, speed, agility, reflexes, stamina, durability, and senses
  • Expert swimmer
  • Expert Marksman
  • Hardened scale-like skin
  • Razor-sharp claws and teeth
  • Immunity to toxins
  • Regenerative healing factor
  • Experienced alligator wrestler

There have been several versions of this crazed killer, mostly he is disfigured and not very bright, sometimes he is a mutate, sometimes he is just born that way its hard to call what version they will choose for this film, but its good that they are using another well known character, but id rather they picked Killer Shark, even if that would be harder to explain.

El Diabo

The original El Diablo was a western hero. A bank teller that is stuck in a coma possessed by a demon he is a spirit of vengeance. In current DC comics El Diablo is Chato Santana, an ex-criminal who after being hospitalized, meets the still living comatose original El Diablo. He takes on the role for his own sake and joins the Suicide Squad. Not much is known about this guy but time will soon tell if he is worthy of the mantle.

This is an interesting line up and I am looking forward to this unique film and hopefully Will Smith will have a couple of good lines in the film.
