Suicide Squad is coming to San Diego’s Comic-Con International this July. To promote the upcoming August release of the film Warner Bros. has announced that it will take over 6000 square feet of the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego, California to recreate Belle Reve penitentiary during this year’s Comic-Con. Attendees will be able to explore each day of the convention from 10 am to 7 pm, in addition to taking part in a virtual reality experience that puts users into the midst of a scene from the Suicide Squad movie, visiting Harley Quinn’s tattoo parlor, and taking photos inside a recreated Belle Reve jail cell.
Since we are staying at The Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego, I guest our potential ‘cell’ mates will be crazy indeed.
Warner Bros. will be promoting the film in Hall H again this year, promising cast appearances both on stage for the studio’s exclusive presentation of the movie and on the convention floor as part of the DC Entertainment booth’s fan signings. The cast will also be on hand for a special taping of Conan O’Brien’s show on July 23. Tickets for the Conan live tapings are free but they are not available yet, the link to claim tickets when they are made available is https://conan.1iota.com/show/370/Conan
There is no confirmation on which “Squad” members will make the trip to San Diego at this time. However I expect they will bring the full cast including Will Smith, Viola Davis, Cara Delevingne, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Jared Leto and Margot Robbie with director David Ayer.
Fans are also invited to enter DC All Access’s (DCAA) “Suicide Squad” online Cosplay Contest starting Thursday, June 9, with their best Squad-inspired look as Deadshot, the Joker, Harley Quinn, Colonel Rick Flag, Amanda Waller, Captain Boomerang, Diablo, Killer Croc, Enchantress, Slipknot or Katana.
Eleven winners, selected by visitors to the site, will then receive an all-expenses-paid trip for four days and three nights to San Diego and passes to the Con, where they will take part in a range of Warner Bros.’ “Suicide Squad” activities throughout the weekend.
Details are now on www.dccomics.com, Twitter and Instagram.
