The Underground Lightsaber Fighters are heading to San Diego Comic-Con International 2016

Let’s just pretend for a second that we are all honest people and admit to the fact that at some point in our lives we have all wished that we could go all Jedi or Sith and embrace our inner Star Wars kid because lets face it we have. Lightsabers are cool, fictional but cool and fighting with them can seem lame but there are a few souls out there bucking this trend and making it real. You can go online and search for groups in your home town but if you’re curious about the underground world of lightsaber fighting then maybe San Diego Comic-Con International 2016 might be the perfect place to dip your toe in the water.

If you’re thinking that these guys are a bunch of jackasses waving around glowing sticks making swoosh noises then you’d be dead wrong.

Some of the current top fighters are trained in martial arts such as eskrima, fencing and kendo, while others are self taught brawlers.

This may seem kind of stupid to some but the fights are very real, well you can’t cut peoples limbs off but you do have to wear some safety gear and this is taken directly from their homepage :

-Head Guard (any guard that can take a strike to top and sides of the head)

-Mouth Guard (Not required if you have full face protection)

-Gloves (Lacrosse Gloves, Karate Gloves, Motorcycle Gloves, etc…)

-Groin Protector – Me personally id like to double up on this, gotta keep the family jewels safe after all.

-Shoes (All competitors must wear shoes no exceptions)

So why am i telling you all this? Well San Diego Comic-Con International is a big international event with people from all over the world attending so on the Saturday night you can make your way to Balboa park at 8PM and see them fight or maybe fight yourself, all the details are available on their Facebook homepage by clicking here.

Now if you want to fight you are going to need a lightaber which in this case counts as a polycarbonate tube as a blade, which attaches to a hilt. The blade must light up and be powered on during the fight. You can find these easily online, though price is the only issue.

So guys hopefully I will see you there and may the force be with you.
