With San Diego Comic-Con International 2016 only three months away, it’s time for us to reveal our thoughts on which films we think will be at SDCC. With so many exciting films coming out later this year and next year SDCC 2016 is shaping out to be another amazing event. We are only including films with a release date before July 2017 as we imagine any films released after that would be saved for SDCC 2017, for example Justice League Part 1 (Nov 2017) and Thor: Ragnarok (Nov 2017).
LAST UPDATED: 10th July 2016
Ascendant- June 2017 (USA)
No doubt Lionsgate will be back to promote the fourth and final film to The Divergent series.
Assassins Creed 21 December 2016 (USA) and 30 December 2016 (UK)
Ubisoft has taken over Gaslamp the previous years with its Assassins Creed course, I would imagine it would be back this year to promote the winter release of the film. With them also launching a competition to win a trip to SDCC, it all but pretty much confirms that Assassin’s Creed should be at SDCC. I’m keeping my fingers crossed Michael Fassbender will have a panel at Comic-Con 2016, maybe they might even show the second trailer or exclusive footage.

Dark Tower-17 February 2017 (USA) and (UK)
It’s finally happening after spending years in development hell, it remains to be seem if this will be the based on the first book of the series or if, and I really hope not, its a combination of all 7 books. I’m really hoping the cast and crew will be at SDCC to ask the burning questions many people have about this film, after all it has been a long time coming.
Doctor Strange-28 October 2016 (UK) 4 November 2016 (USA)
Marvel and Benedict Cumberbatch are all you need to pack Hall H full of screaming fans, with the upcoming winter release of the much anticipated Marvel film it wouldn’t make sense for them not to be at SDCC this summer. After all it would be the best place to reveal another new trailer for Doctor Strange or at least exclusive footage of the film. Or maybe this is my wishful thinking because this is one of the films I am looking forward to this year. To be honest I don’t know much about the origins of Doctor Strange but the trailer and my faith in Marvel has me very intrigued.
Upate 10/6/16: It looks like Doctor Strange could be heading to Comic-Con according to a tweet from director Scott Derrickson.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them-18 November 2016 (USA and UK)
As a long time Harry Potter fan, I am looking forward to this spin off movie from the world of Harry Potter. With a blockbuster film such as this it’s highly likely the cast and crew will be at SDCC to promote this film. I expect Hall H to be full of wizards, muggles and other magical creatures. Now its time to dust of my wand in preparation for this, yes the inner child in me cannot wait for this film.
Update 30/6/16:
David Yates, director of the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, revealed that they’ll be bringing the film to San Diego Comic-Con International 2016.
In a recent interview with tribute.ca, Yates said, “It’s very exciting and I’m editing it at the moment and it’s coming together really well. We’re going to take a few clips to Comic-Con very shortly and we’re working on the second one as well.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume Two-28 April 2017 (UK) and 5 May 2017 (USA)
I loved the first film and so did many others who went to see it, it brought lots of nostalgia especially with its eighties soundtrack. I’m looking forward to what its sequel has in store and of course the epic soundtrack that would accompany it. Marvel will hopefully do something to represent this film at SDCC, along with their other upcoming Marvel films.
UPDATE 2/6/16: It looks like Guardians of the Galaxy 2 cast and crew could be heading to San Diego Comic-Con International 2016 as teased by Director James Gunn.
During a break from filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Director James Gunn answered fan questions on Facebook, when asked about an appearance at SDCC 2016, he stated:
“Am I going to San Diego Comic-Con?” “That’s a good question. Do you guys want me to go to San Diego Comic-Con? We’ll have to see. I would like to go, that would be amazing, wouldn’t it? I would like to come and see you all at San Diego Comic-Con and bring some friends along. That would be awful fun. That would be awful fun, I would really love to do that.”
UPDATE 10/6/26: It looks like Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is heading to Comic-Con according to director James Gunn on his official Twitter account.

Update 17/6/16: James Gunn confirmed on Facebook that he and the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 cast will be at San Diego Comic-Con International 2016.
“We, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ are coming to San Diego Comic Con this year. We’re going to be there. I’m going to be there. Chris Pratt is going to be there. A bunch of the gang is going to be there and we’re going to show you guys something pretty cool.”
The Killing Joke (July 2016)
Last October I mentioned that Bruce Timm expected to show his animated feature of The Killing Joke at San Diego Comic-Con 2016. He’s now confirmed that he will be premiering The Killing Joke at San Diego Comic-Con 2016.
Update 3/6/16: The world premiere has been confirmed to take place on Friday 22nd July 2016, although a venue for the premiere has yet to be announced.
The premiere will spotlight the first public exhibition of the eagerly awaited film and a post-screening panel discussion among available members of the core cast and filmmaking team. The celebrity-laden cast is led by Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League) and Mark Hamill (Batman: The Animated Series,Star Wars franchise) as they reprise their seminal roles as the voices of Batman/Bruce Wayne and The Joker, respectively, as well as Tara Strong (Teen Titans; Batman: Arkham games) as Barbara Gordon and Ray Wise (Twin Peaks, RoboCop) as Commissioner Gordon. Batman: The Killing Joke is directed by Sam Liu (Justice League vs. Teen Titans) from a script by Eisner Award-winning writer Brian Azzarello. Bruce Timm and Sam Register are executive producers. Benjamin Melniker & Michael Uslan are executive producers. Alan Burnett is co-producer.
Update 8/7/16:
The Killing Joke World premiere
Friday July 22, 2016 9:00pm – 12:00am
Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle- 16 June 2017 (USA and UK)
They promoted the first Kingsman film at SDCC so it stands to reason that they should be back this summer to promote their upcoming sequel. The new cast for the sequel include Channing Tatum, now I wonder what his role would be? Maybe they may reveal some details about his role should they have a Kingsman 2 panel at SDCC. Although he did give a little hint about his character on Twitter.
For Game of Thrones fans Pedro Pascal is also cast on the sequel as the character Jack Daniels, interesting to name a character after a brand of whiskey. Then again the concept art for the Kingsman HQ in the sequel is a distillery.
Other new cast joining the sequel include Julieanne Moore and Halle Berry. Julieanne Moore looks set to play a villain called Poppy and here is the concept art for her Poppyland,
Original cast Taron Egerton, Sophie Cookson, Mark Strong and Colin Firth (rumoured but Taron’s tweet below seems to confirm his return) will be back for the sequel.
I honestly really do think they will be at SDCC as this sequel is set to be a summer blockbuster, the first film was a unexpected hit and this film could be the Dark Knight especially with a stellar cast line up, bigger budget and I imagine another great story with equally brilliant characters. I can’t wait for this film, fingers crossed we get some exclusive footage at SDCC.
Kong: Skull Island-10 March 2017 (USA) and (UK)
I’m really hoping the cast and crew will be at SDCC if only so Loki (I mean Tom Hiddleston) will be there. I mean the guy sure knows how to make a grand entrance at SDCC. Lets not forget that the cast also includes the amazing Academy Award winning actress Brie Larson and of course the ever so cool Samuel L. Jackson. This would be Legendary Studios big blockbuster film next year and the lead in film to their upcoming King Kong Vs Godzilla film in 2020. Who knows, maybe they might even show the first trailer at SDCC 2016

The Lego Batman Movie-10 February 2017 (USA) and (UK)
I don’t even need to say anything as the 2 trailers they have released so far pretty much sums up why you have to see this spin off sequel to The Lego Movie. I would love the cast and crew to be at SDCC to promote this film, if only because the panel would just have the audience in stitches just like the trailer thanks the the brilliant voice acting abilities of Mr Will Arnett.
Update 17/6/16: Will Arnett will be at San Diego Comic-Con International 2016 to promote The Lego Batman Movie. He will also be hosting ‘Syfy Presents Live From Comic-Con.’

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story-16 December 2016 (USA) and (UK)
With last years amazing Star Wars: The Force Awakens panel and celebratory concert afterwards at SDCC, the stakes and anticipation are high for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. What will they do and who will be at SDCC? Will they reveal another trailer, show us new and exclusive footage? The fans demand they at least have a panel at SDCC even if they can’t tease us with another new trailer or footage. The cast and crew themselves being there are enough to make grown Star Wars fans cry with tears of joy and excitement.
Although now that a Rouge One panel has been confirmed for Star Wars Celebration 2016 the weekend before SDCC 2016 we may not even get a panel at SDCC 2016.
UPDATE-31/5/16
It’s highly unlikely the cast and crew will be at SDCC 2016 now that Disney has ordered 4 weeks of reshoots beginning in July.
Spiderman: Homecoming- 7 July 2017 (USA)
I haven’t seen Captain America: Civil War yet since it hasn’t been released yet but the lucky few who did get advanced screenings said Spiderman was one of the best things about the film. This gives me hope that the upcoming reboot of Spiderman could be good. While I don’t understand the title, it does sound rather cheesy I will give this film the benefit and pray that they do it justice. People may have laughed at his costume but the reality is not many teenage boys could afford to make amazing costumes unless you came from a rich family, in that sense this is probably the most realistic Spiderman costume. While the costumes where pretty cool in the previous Spiderman films, it was utterly unrealistic. Where does Peter Parker suddenly have the funds and skills to make such elaborate costumes?
I think the best realistic portrayal of costume making I’ve seen lately was in The Daredevil Netflix series, he found someone with the skills to help him make it. I doubt Ben Affleck in The Daredevil film had the money nor the skill to make such a costume, he’s not meant to be rich lawyer as he’s too busy fighting crime at night.
With the release a year away from SDCC 2016, I imagine the cast and crew of this film will be part of a panel promoting upcoming Marvel films.
Suicide Squad-5 August 2016 (USA) and (UK)
I expect the film will make some sort of appearance at SDCC especially since the film would be out the following month in August. While they may not provide a early screening for lucky fans (one could dream), they may still show exclusive footage or at least have the cast as part of a panel for upcoming DC Entertainment films such as The Justice League. They may also promote the film with an off site event like when they had a Harley Quinn themed tattoo parlour at SXSW earlier this year.
UPDATE 9/6/16:
Suicide Squad is coming to San Diego’s Comic-Con International this July. To promote the upcoming August release of the film Warner Bros. is transforming San Diego’s Hard Rock Hotel into the Belle Reve Penitentiary, the lock-up that holds the movie’s supervillains.
Warner Bros. will be promoting the film in Hall H again this year, promising cast appearances both on stage for the studio’s exclusive presentation of the movie and on the convention floor as part of the DC Entertainment booth’s fan signings. The cast will also be on hand for a special taping of Conan O’Brien’s show on July 23. Tickets for the Conan live tapings are free but they are not available yet, the link to claim tickets when they are made available is https://conan.1iota.com/show/370/Conan
There is no confirmation on which “Squad” members will make the trip to San Diego at this time. However I expect they will bring the full cast including Will Smith, Viola Davis, Cara Delevingne, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Jared Leto and Margot Robbie with director David Ayer.
Update 7/7/17:
The stars of Suicide Squad attending include Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Cara Delevingne, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Karen Fukuhara, Jay Hernandez and Adam Beach

Wonder Woman- 2 June 2017 (USA)
Wonder Woman aka Diana Prince was one of the best characters in Batman Vs Superman so I’m looking forward to her standalone movie next year. Here’s hoping the cast and crew of Wonder Woman will be there to promote the film and hopefully show us a trailer for the film.
Update 15/6/16: It was announced today that a “Wonder Woman 75” panel will take place at San Diego Comic-Con International in July 2016 which will celebrate the history and future of the super hero, along with displays at DC’s booth of Lynda Carter’s original costume from the 1970s television series and numerous additional costumes, including the one worn by star Gal Gadot in the upcoming film.
A life-size Wonder Woman invisible jet will be on display at San Diego Comic-Con and the rare plane will illuminate at night for fan photos, along with one-of-a-kind Wonder Woman-inspired graffiti-art pieces. WBCP and Mattel will offer an exclusive anniversary DC Multiverse™ Wonder Woman Action Figure and Invisible Jet combo set (available exclusively on Mattycollector.com beginning June 17) designed especially for the 75th celebration.
