While at MCM Belfast Comic Con this weekend,2-3 May 2015 at King’s Hall, we had the opportunity to meet and interview actress Katrina Law. Many of our readers will know her as Nyssa Al Ghul in the CW network and DC Comics TV series Arrow.
We do warn you that this interview contains spoilers, so if you haven’t seen season 3 yet then I suggest you catch up first before reading a major spoiler below.
How do you feel about playing the character Nyssa now, after two seasons already in Arrow?
I love playing Nyssa, I’m honoured to be a part of the DC universe and being able to play a girl who is kick ass. It’s wonderful, complex and fantastic.
Have you ever put on your costume, when no one is looking and posed in the mirror and think ‘yeah that’s me?’
When I first was outfitted in the costume, there was a moment where I did stare at myself in the mirror for 5 minutes and geeked out because it was so bad ass. I then twirled because the flaps on the jacket are pretty amazing.
Besides yourself, who is the most fun on set?
John Barrowman definitely is king of pranks, jokes and goofing off but as soon as action is called he goes right back down to work and acts all serious again. It’s amazing watching him flip from comedy to drama.
Currently there is a little bit of controversy with Arrow, with your character being forced to marry Oliver Queen, what do you think about the plot line?
Story wise, I think it’s brilliant. If you want to have the fandom up in arms and cause controversy then this is the perfect way to do it. It does make sense though because the first priority for my father (Ra’s Al Ghul) is the League of Assassins. Anything that helps to promote the League of Assassins and to carry it forward is above all else, including his daughter and any wants or desires of any kind of personal nature.
Do you hope to be in the next season or can you confirm anything?
I’m hoping to live past this season but we’ll see.
What would be your dream role if you could play any role right now?
I would love to be a female Jason Bourne.
Would you not want a role in Game of Thrones?
Game of Thrones is wonderful and I love watching it and it’s one of my favourite shows for sure. However I did Spartacus, so I would love to move on to something else such as a female Jason Bourne. I feel like it would be alot of fun.
As a fan of Game of Thrones, who do you think will come out victorious in the end?
I think Khaleesi and with the help of Tyrion, she will become victorious and she will marry Jon Snow.
Out of curiosity, have you managed to get any of the Arrow cast to try chicken feet?
No but I got my dog to do it.
I take people to dim sum and whenever there is a first timer, we always make them eat the chicken’s foot. Yeah, it’s an Asian thing.
