Continuing on from the most highly anticipated comedies and dramas of 2015, we decided to cover family films next. Last year we had the likes of The Lego Movie, Maleficent and Big Hero 6 to name but a few. For 2015 there is also a great selection of fun films, with Disney storming ahead with both live action and computer animated movies. We decided to include movies that you can take your kids/siblings/nieces/nephews too without worrying about the content but will also provide just as much joy to you.
We all know the story. Cinderella is left under the care of her wicked stepmother and stepsisters, and is forced into a miserable life as a servant. However everything changes when she meets a handsome prince and falls in love. Although many question a live action remake of this classic tale, it’s actually an opportunity to introduce the story to a whole new generation. The trailer is absolutely brilliant; really capturing the magic of Cinderella.

When an alien race, the Boov, invade Earth and start relocating humans to a different planet, a young girl called Tip manages to evade capture. Soon she crosses paths with a banished Boov named Oh and the adventure begins. Apart from the trailer being highly amusing and the Boov being absolutely adorable, the best thing about this movie is that Jim Parsons stars as Oh. That’s right Jim Parson AKA Sheldon Cooper is playing an alien. Get your tickets now!

Jaded, former boy genius Frank and bright, optimistic teen Casey try to unravel the mystery of an enigmatic place known only as Tomorrowland. Not much is known about the film’s plot yet as there have only been 2 teaser trailers released. What’s certain though is that the movie definitely looks exciting. With a cast including George Clooney and Hugh Laurie, and Lost’s Damon Lindelof writing and producing, I’m predicting great things from Tomorrowland.
Release date: May 22nd USA and UK
A young girl has to face a new city, house and school when her father gets a job in San Francisco. She is guided by her emotions: Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness who all disagree on how best to handle the difficulties she faces. First of all I have to say the cast for this is great. When you have the likes of Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling and Phyllis Smith in your line-up you know you’re in for a hilarious film. The clip released further reinforces my confidence in the movie and as such I’d say this is the family film I’m most looking forward to seeing in 2015.
Release date: June 19th (USA) and 24th July (UK)
On a quest to find a new master to serve three Minions head to Villain Con where they meet Scarlet Overkill, the world’s first female supervillian. Let’s face it this film could be an hour and a half of the Minions running around screaming “Banana!” and we’d probably still enjoy it. They’re both adorable and hilarious, what’s not to love?
Release date: June 26th (UK) and July 10th (USA)
An orphan is spirited away to the mysterious Neverland. There he begins a journey which leads him to become the hero known as Peter Pan. I’ve always been a fan of origin stories and this one’s no different. The really interesting thing about going back to the beginning of Peter’s time on Neverland is seeing the friendly dynamic between him and Hook. Like Cinderella, the trailer feels absolutely magical.
