World’s Lair 2025

A month ago, I had no idea what World’s Lair was. Better yet, I had no idea this was going to be the highlight of summer 2025 for me. Yet here I am trying to put the perverbile pen to paper and tell you all about how much I loved this event.

On my way to World’s Lair, channelling my Warlocks day off look

It started on one sunny Friday afternoon when I was scrolling through Instagram and noticed that several members of the brilliant Oxventure were attending an even in London at the end of the month. Did I have flights, hotels, or even the day off work booked? No, I had none of these, but by hell of highwater, I was going to be at this event. So I got my ticket and hope to god the rest would work out.

Upon arriving, I was a little trepadatious about heading to this event, especially since it was very intimate, and I was completely on my own. But upon entering, I felt right at home. The staff and attendees were all so kind it was just delightful.

The space felt more like a fantasy tavern than a bar in the middle of London. Not only did I enter to hear a bardcore rendition of Depeche mode, but there was a fricken dragon roaming the area.

So what did I get up to while at Worlds Lair?

Once I had my feet under me, I decided to try my hand at some caligraphy. The first of the many free things they had for us to do and this was very relaxing, people were just being so kind and supportive of each other. I do not think I was any good, but I really enjoyed myself, and in the end, that is all that matters. Next up, it was a quick Scavenger Hunt.

After the scavenger hunt, I got to play Force of Extinction. This is a really fun TTRPG game that see’s you forge a civilization in a post-apocolytic world where you and the inhabitants of your local town have to survive against the mutant plantlife that is looking to devour you all. I will talk more about this game in an upcoming article, but for now  will say this, it was an absolute blast to play and really easy to pick up.

Now it was time for pints and a great show by the Performing Nerd, Tom Crosbie, can confirm the man is an absolute gentleman and very funny to boot. I had some footage of his live show but felt his appearance on Penn & Teller is a better depiction of his skills.

And as much fun as that was next up we had a pub quiz hoasted by the legendary Johnny Chiodini, the man was a great hoast who threw the crowd a couple of curve balls but also definetly made us laugh. After that, we had a raffle, and then it was time for dinner.

Between the bridges had an amazing selection of food, with Mexican and Japanese both on offer, but as it was London, well, I just had to grab myself a cheeky fish and chips.

After a bit of downtime, it was time for the first act of the night, The Non Stick Pans.

I did not know who these lads were, but I am a firm fan of the band now.

Finally, it was time for the main event of the day, with Johnny, Jane, and Ellen being joined by a member of Natural 6 & Jasper from 12 sides studios. This was just the perfect way to end the night. It was a game of Dungeons and Dragons, but everyone playing was a mimic. If you are not a DND fan, well, you are missing out.

It’s been an exhausting few months, and this group had me laughing in histerics. Especially when it devolved into the most intense game of hungry hungry hippos I have ever seen.

Unfortunately, the ball was over, and it was time for Cinderella to head home. Fortunatley Worlds Lair will be back for 2026, and I hope that I will be back too.
