The trailer for this really does not sell it, but trust me, this one is a fun, violent, and actually kind of poignant story. And knowing all that, let’s get into it.
So this is the synopsis that Mubi chose to use for this film:
“After being possessed by the ghost of vengeful hit man Kudo, college student Fumika Matsuoka agrees to help him finish his quest for vengeance from beyond the grave.“
And frankly, it does not sell the plot, sums it up, but misses out on Kudo and Fumikas relationship, which is the highlight of this movie. It goes from fear to genuine friendship and is tragically beautiful.

Akari Takaishi, who you all might remember from the Baby Assassin’s Trilogy, plays Fumika, unlike those films she comes to this role with a reserved quiet strength that stands in contrast to other roles we have seen her in. And of course, when you get to see her fight, it is amazing. She is such a fantastic talent, I hope more people in the West will discover her soon.
In stark contrast to her is Yoshiyuki Yamaguchi, he is downright menacing in this film, and I am here for it. But under that cold exterior, he is a man of honour and kind of a softy. Plus, this guy could give John Wick a run for his money. Their dynamic is absolutely fantastic.

Kensuke Sonomura continues to be one of the best action directors in the film industry, and this film shows it. The fight scenes are never chaotic, but there is always something happening, and on top of that, this man knows how to build a scene.
This one’s an absolute gem of a movie, and ome you should all check out.
