Interview with Rings of Power star Trystan Gravelle

Ahead of Rings of Power season 2 airing on Amazon, we caught up with the cast at San Diego Comic Con to talk all things Tolkien, their own nerdy habits and see what they could reveal about the upcoming season.

When we spoke with Trystan Gravelle (Pharazon), he was having a great Comic Con experience. He’s a big fan of The Boys, and had a chance meeting with Antony Starr, who plays Homelander, in an elevator – “I lost all composure and geeked out. But it was a lovely moment for me to shake his hand and meet him”. When we asked which Boys character he would play if given the chance, he was quick to pick Butcher but noted how great Karl Urban was in the role so he was “happy just watching”.

Unlike Gravelle, his character Pharazon isn’t having as good of a time in season 2 and there are lots of things to explore: “The King is dead, his uncle and mentor, so how does that affect him? The Queen has come back from her war-faring and hasn’t had good results so how does that impact their society?” Gravelle says that the second season will see how people grieve differently and cope with the fallout from season 1. When asked if there might be a power struggle between Pharazon and the Queen, he remained tight lipped but said there was definite differences in idealogy – one being progressive, and the other being antiquated, which will play out in season 2.
