I remember watching Gamesworld back in the 90s on Sky Tv, and in between segments of competitors playing the best games of the 16-bit era there was this segment about tye underground robot fighting league, my imagination was hooked. Then, in 1998, this underground league went mainstream with the introduction of Robot Wars.

Robot Wars was a now iconic British robot combat television series created by Tom Gutteridge and Stephen Carsey. Originally, it aired from 1998 to 2004 but returned from 2016 to 2018. The series involves teams of amateur and professional roboteers operating remote-controlled robots to fight against each other in an arena. It was originally hosted by Jeremy Clarkson but quickly moved onto the always excellent Craig Charles, and in its second run, it was hosted by Dara Ó Briain & Angela Scanlon.
Long story short, I was hooked, and in my youth, I dreamed of partaking in this series. Alas, it was not to be, though maybe, just maybe a chance may have returned.
Leading engineering component company Accu has partnered with FightFest to give budding creators and designers the opportunity to win the ultimate robot fighting experience, reminiscent of Robot Wars, BattleBots & Big Hero 6.
To enter applicants simply need to submit their creative robot designs through the Accu website.
The winning creation will receive a total of five All Access Weekend tickets to FightFest – one for themselves and four other people.
So what’s in this for the competitors?
Well, other than the glory and honour of competing, there are also prizes.
The winner will also get signed merchandise and a few other goodies throughout the weekend. Four runner’s up prizes will also be up for grabs as part of the competition.
Taking place at the Magna Science Adventure Centre, the FightFest event promises to be the best one yet, with over 40 professional roboteers attending the event this year, all competing to win the title of ‘European Featherweight Champion.’
Hosted over the August bank holiday weekend (24th-26th August) attendees can expect to witness nail biting battles, see the innovations up close and speak to professional roboteers.
The competition is open to all ages in the UK and for those that have already purchased a ticket for any day of the three day event will automatically receive a 58% discount to explore the science centre.
