It says a lot that this story really flew under the radar. But with every major news story that has happened in the past ten years it’s easy to see why. Fortunately thanks to this film the world is going to know the story of Reality Winner.

Reality Leigh Winner is an American U.S. Air Force vet & former NSA translator. Way back in 2018, Winner was given the longest prison sentence ever for an unauthorized release of government information to the media.

So what did she leak?

Reality Winner leaked information on Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections.

The film about Reality was created using actual audio recordings taken the day of her arrest. Which gives it a truly unique look into a world many of us know nothing about.

Sydney Sweeney stars as Reality Winner and here she once again proves that she is more than a modern blonde bombshell and that she is a true acting powerhouse. Her entire performance is so subtle and understated yet utterly captivating it is truly a masterpiece of acting.

The film literally shows the day a young woman’s life goes from quiet and unseen to front and center for the whole world to see. To call this film tense would be an absolute understatement.

Offsetting the intensity of this film is the fact that for the most part we spend it in the back room of this women’s house, mostly just her and two very friendly officers of the law. Yet over its run time things are revealed that even though you know they are coming you still cannot help but feel shocked.

I left this film with a strange haunted feeling inside me. I could see why Reality did what did but at the same time I can’t help but wonder if she really deserved her punishment?

This one is definitely one of 2023’s best films.
