Rockstars Edinburgh Studios Hit by Explosion

Early reports from the Herald say that seven Scottish Fire and Rescue Service vehicles were called out  studio’s Edinburgh office in Holyrood Road after an alarm was raised at about 5am.

So far not much is known, though early reports say it may have been an explosion from the boiler room.

A spokesperson said firefighters had been called out to deal with structural damage at the building following an incident on Sunday. (BBC)

Rockstar Games is a major American video game publisher founded in 1998, best known for blockbuster franchises like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne, and Midnight Club, and is a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive. The company has over 2,000 employees globally and is headquartered in New York City, with development studios such as Rockstar North in the UK. Recently, in October 2025 Rockstar fired some 30–40 staff across its UK and Canadian studios, which the firm said was due to alleged sharing of confidential information in breach of company policy; however, the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain has accused Rockstar of firing pro-union workers and engaging in union-busting, claiming many of those let go were trying to organise or were union members, a move that has sparked protests and legal action. �
