Ahead of Rings of Power season 2 airing on Amazon, we caught up with the cast at San Diego Comic Con to talk all things Tolkien, their own nerdy habits and see what they could reveal about the upcoming season.
Like her co-star Trystan Gravelle (Pharazon), Ema Horvath (Earien) is a big fan of The Boys. In her ideal world (and if she wasn’t busy playing Earien of course) she’d love to take on the role of Homelander – “imagine being that powerful”. She also admits it might be fun to play someone so evil, the complete opposite to her character in Rings of Power.
A similarity Horvath shares with her character is her love of the creative. Horvath enjoys architecture and interior design, which lines up with Earien who is a keen artist. To prep for that aspect of her character, she “went down the rabbit hole” with various illustrators and their works. And she practices her own drawing, always having her sketchbook on set with her. She also found it important to dive into Tolkien’s works as research for her role, citing the Akallabeth (the story of the downfall of Numenor) as her bible, something she always goes back to when shooting.
And what was the shooting experience like for season 2? Horvath said her favourite moments were film calls with Lloyd Owen (Elendil) who plays her on screen father. She teased that season 2 would dive headfirst into the familial dynamics. And that Earien was doing more, much more. Sounds like a great season for both Ema Horvath and Earien. We can’t wait to see it play out.
