Apple Wants Us To See What happened directly after Lincoln Was Shot

This one is a delicious mix of historical fiction and intense thriller. Manhunt tells the tale of the aftermath of the Abraham Lincoln assassination.

So for those of you who are somehow unfamiliar with the history. On the evening of April 14  1865 at 10:15, John Wilkes Booth shot Lincoln in the back of the head, while paying attention to a play at Ford’s Theatre. After Booth would dive onto stage screaming the Virginia state motto, Sic semper tyrannis! – “Thus always to tyrants”.

What many people do not know is this was part of a larger conspiracy with Louis Powell, attacking and seriously injuring Secretary of State William H. Seward and two of his sons. Another conspirator was expected to kill Vice President Johnson, but he lost his nerve.

What followed was one of the most famous man hunts in all of history. It took over twelve days and covered over ninety miles through the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, but it inevitably ended.

Manhunt will tell this story and I think it’s one worth watching. As long as they avoid glorifying Booth. The show will also talk about the politics at the time and the wants of the men in power. It has the potential to be a fascinating slice of history and one that may shed light on some overlooked moments at a very chaotic point in America’s formative years.
