It’s a month till San Diego Comic Con and that means the announcements will really start ramping up. Offsites, signings, exclusives and panels will all be confirmed in the coming weeks. The biggest panel announcements will be those films that are heading to Hall H. Featuring exclusive footage, talented stars, Q&As, and sometimes even free swag, SDCC film panels are the most exciting place to be. Here we break down the top 10 films we want to see at SDCC and how likely they are to appear.
The Marvels

This one is pretty much a given. Marvel has a lot to promote this year and with a November release date The Marvels look to take centre stage. The trailer for the movie is absolutely fantastic and it would be great to see the 3 leads together in Hall H.
Barbie

Ever since the first teaser got released, fans have been going wild, and rightfully so. With a stunning colour palette, stellar cast, and campy humour, Barbie looks to be the smash hit of the summer. However, given that it is released on the Friday of the con it may decide to skip. We still have our fingers crossed for some type of appearance though – maybe an offsite?
Argylle

Matthew Vaughn + Henry Cavill already = gold. Add the fact that it’s a spy film that is intending to be a trilogy with a cast made up of fan favourites – Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Samuel L Jackson, Catherine O’Hara (the list goes on), and you have a winner. It’s cinema release date is February next year which is slightly far away but it may release on Apple TV earlier. Apple TV also enjoyed a very successful year at Comic Con last year. Bringing this film may be the key to replicating that success.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes

Lionsgate don’t always attend which makes us unsure if the movie will be making an appearance. However, The Hunger Games franchise has a long history at SDCC and with a November release, it seems like a no brainer to have a panel for the prequel film. The trailer which has a lot of hype has already been released but there’s plenty of other footage and goodies that the studio could offer up.
The Haunted Mansion

While we enjoyed the original version, the reboot looks like it’s going to be more faithful to the ride and has Disney fans everywhere very excited. With a July 28th release date, SDCC may be the perfect last minute promo for the film. Sadly, this is probably the least likely on the list to make an appearance as Disney doesn’t often bring their films to the con (with the exception of Marvel of course).
Untitled Ghostbusters Afterlife sequel

The Ghostbusters sequel is perfect genre fare for Comic Con. And with fan favourite actors like Finn Wolfhard, Paul Rudd, and Ernie Hudson, a panel would be a great way to draw audiences in. The film has a December release date but no trailer yet so perhaps Sony is waiting for the best time and place to drop it. We think Hall H in July sounds right.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse

It would seem unjust if the final instalment of this incredible film series didn’t get a good send off at Comic Con. Fans absolutely love this franchise and Hall H would be sure to be packed for a panel. However, Sony are a bit hit or miss at attending Comic Con but they do have plenty to promote this year so here’s hoping Spider-Man gets its swan song.
The Exorcist: Believer

Perhaps not a Hall H panel, but the latest instalment of The Exorcist franchise seems like it would be a perfect fit for ScareDiego, which we’re hoping returns this year. Iconic actress Ellen Burstyn from the original is returning with the very talented Leslie Odom Jr. joining the team. That pair alone would make for a fantastic panel. Horror representation is important at Comic Con with fans often asking for more, and with an October release, it seems like the right time to promote.
Babylon 5: The Road Home

Babylon 5 is finally back with an animated film being released this summer. Fans of the original series would flock to see a panel promoting the movie. And what better way to bring it to the attention of a new generation of fans than at SDCC? Creator J.Michael Straczynski is a favourite at Comic Con and due to the film being animation, it is not thought that it will be affected by the WGA stroke. So this one seems to be a lock to have some sort of presence.
Wonka

Perhaps the least Comic con-esqe film on the list, but the character is so iconic that Warner Bros. might decide to roll the dice on it. There’s been no trailer yet, so Comic Con would be the perfect place to debut. Plus, there’s a chance lead actor Timothee Chalamet may already be in town if Dune 2 gets a panel so why not have a double appearance?
