I have no doubt that this may upset some people. But trust me as a straight man, raised mostly catholic, from a very conservative country ( seriously we don’t have strip clubs, shops are mostly closed on Sundays and our formerly biggest political party was founded by an ultra strict sect of Christianity) I can tell you that at worst this is perfectly harmless and at best this may make some kid feel seen. So please don’t get upset by this news.
In the upcoming game Crash Team Rumble it has been confirmed that one of the new characters will be a Non-Binary, David Bowie inspired badass.
Now before writing this up I had the lofty ideal of defining what Non-Binary is, because well some people out there may not know. Turns out I may be one of those people, but in this case I believe it refers to the fact that this new character may not identify as any specific gender.
So dear readers I present you with Catbat:

Currently we do not have much information on the character as the announcement is fairly recent but as it’s pride month this does seem very appropriate. Though I do love the design it’s fresh and new, unusual colours and fits in perfectly with the Crash Bandicoot aesthetic.
What we do know is that Catbat will be voiced by the very talented Erika Ishii who also identifies as Non-binary. Which does help add some credibility to the team behind this game, showing that this is more than a cynical attempt to get clout and that representing this often overlooked identity is something they actually believe in.

If you are familiar with Erika it could be from their voice work in Apex Legends, as a guest on Critical Role, working the red carpet at a few MCU events, the upcoming Stray God’s or the brilliant short film And Then.

As for the game featuring Catbat, well it looks like it’s going to be a blast.
Crash Team Rumble is an upcoming online multiplayer video game developed by Toys for Bob and published by Activision.I know Activision is kind of a dirty word, but this one tempts me. Crash Team Rumble sees two opposing teams go up against each other as they grab as many Wumpa Fruits all the while trying to stop their opponents efforts.
You will have multiple characters to choose from and each character will have their own strengths and weaknesses. The character will also be split into three different roles: “Blocker”, “Booster”, and “Scorer”.
Like I said Activision is kind of a dirty word but this is a game I’m probably going to be getting.
