The April List

Wondering what to watch, play or do in April? Here at Nerdgeist, we’ve got you covered with 8 things that need to be on your list this month.

Watch: Lee Cronin’s The Mummy

While a lot of April film hype will go to the Super Mario movie, we’re personally more excited for The Mummy which is set to be released on 17th April. It follows a family whose missing daughter returns after 8 years. However, it soon becomes clear that something is wrong with her and that supernatural forces are at work. Described by writer director Cronin as “one part Poltergeist one part Seven”, this has the potential to be horror movie of the year. A sharp departure from the beloved Brendan Fraser franchise, this is less campy adventure, and more supernatural thriller. With eerie vibes and lots of jumps scares expected, we’re on the edge of seats already.

Read: The Book Witch by Meg Shaffer

Set to be released on 7th April, The Book Witch follows a witch sworn to protect works of fiction from all foes real and imaginary. Armed with her magic umbrella and feline familiar, she jumps in and out of novels to fix malicious alterations and rogue heroes whilst trying not to fall in love with fictional characters. Described as a love letter to reading, the adventures takes the characters through the worlds of classics such as The Great Gatsby and Alice in Wonderland, which is an immediate draw to book nerd like us. Plus, this novel blends romance, mystery and fantasy which means there’s something for everyone no matter what your favourite genre is.

Play: Mouse P.I. For Hire

We’re always excited when a game comes out that feels a bit different and Mouse P.I. For Hire certainly looks unique. Drawing inspiration from the classic cartoons of the 1930s, the characters are based on designs of early Mickey Mouse cartoons. Channelling old school shooters, noir thrillers and cartoon violence, gameplay will include both combat sections and investigative sections that promise a distinct gaming experience. The game is sat to be released on 16th April across various gaming platforms.

See: Paranormal Activity

Fans of horror shouldn’t miss out on the stage adaptation of the Paranormal Activity film series. Highly praised for its use of illusions and jump factor, audiences have called the show “truly scary”. Currently showing at the Ambassadors Theatre in London, it is set to finish its run at the end of April. However, for fans who don’t manage to snag tickets before it finishes, fear not, it will be returning to the theatre for two months in August before it goes on a UK and Ireland tour starting in September.

Listen: Real Vikings

In an oversaturated podcast market, it takes a lot to pique our interest but this 10 part series has done it. Focused on immersive storytelling complete with fantastic sound design, expert analysis, and strong narration by Game of Thrones star Iain Glen, Real Vikings aims to bring the Viking Age to life for listeners. The season is in full swing with the first episode premiering on 10th March, with subsequent episodes being released weekly on Tuesdays so now is the perfect time to catch up in time for new episode drops.

Go: London Games Festival

The UK’s largest celebration of video games returns to London for 2026 from 13th-19th April. There will be a wide selection of activities and events for gaming fans to enjoy including new game showcases, awards ceremonies, panels, concerts and much more. And for those interested in or already in the gaming industry, there are lots of opportunities for connecting creators with investors.

Eat: Kinder Maxi Surprise

In our opinion, the best way to celebrate the Easter season is to eat lots of chocolate and if that chocolate is nerdy…even better. Kinder is releasing lots of specialised eggs, both full size and mini, for Easter where you get a figurine with your egg. Properties include Avengers, Barbie, Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Disney. As well as that the Jurassic Park special eggs are still on offer in UK supermarkets. Happy shopping!

Stream: The Boys

While we’re sad The Boys is ending, we’re so excited for season 5 that it almost makes up for it. It’s been almost a 2 year wait but the gang is back on 8th April. With Homelander at the peak of his power and in control, Billy Butcher and team are mounting a defence for one last battle. For those that haven’t watched, we highly recommend this show for its perfect balance of comedy, action, gore and intelligent social commentary. You can catch up on episodes before new ones air on Amazon Prime.
