Den of Geek Magazine and Netflix launch first-of-its-kind AR collaboration with MediaLife.ai for Sakamoto Days

Sakamoto Days, which centres on a retired hitman whose past threatens to disrupt his new quiet life, returned for its second cours on Netflix on July 14th.

To celebrate Den of Geek released an exclusive special edition of their quarterly magazine featuring interviews with the voice actors and producer Genki Ito.

The collectible also serves as a gateway to an exciting first-of-its-kind augmented reality campaign for Sakamoto Days from the AR Studio MediaLife.ai, with fans able to access exclusive browser-based AR experience via a quick scan or tap of NFC-embedded stickers, posters, magazines, and in-store displays available within the Den of Geek Comic Store Network.

MEDIALIFE.ai is an AR studio transforming physical merchandiseand retail displays into an immersive marketing experience. It is quick and accessible with no app download needed and browser-based AR media loading in less than two seconds. Their scalable ARplatform stacks AR and NFC technology to produce real-time digital touchpoints that drive fan engagement, capture consent-based first-party data, and deliver measurable ROI.

The exciting AR media campaign blurs the line between physical and digital by delivering Japanese anime straight into the physical world. The partnership goes hand in hand with one of Netflix’s 2025 initiatives to “move stories beyond the living room and into everyday life”. It also aligns with the debut of “Netflix House”, the soon-to-launch experiential venues where visitors will step directly into the narratives they love.

“I love VR—but with VR, you’re leaving the real world,” says Alex Pinto, Chief Creative &Head of Immersive Merchandise of MediaLife.Ai. “With AR, you’re adding to it. It’smore natural. You already have a powerful phone in your hand, so why not use it to layer dope digital stuff into your world? That’s why I think AR is the next big step—it’s more practical, more accessible, and it doesn’t isolate you. That’s why AR is going to hit first. It fits into everyday life without asking us to change how we live.”
